5 reasons why the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is the most attractive Android today Home Articles The Xiaomi 17 Ultra combines a 1-inch LOFIC sensor, a mechanical telephoto lens, and 4K/120 fps video The price starts at 35,999 CZK, practically the same as the competition, but the camera system is a generation ahead The Photography Kit with a grip and its own battery elevates the phone to the realm of compact Leica cameras Sdílejte: Jakub Kárník Published: 19. 3. 2026 05:30 The flagship phone market is oversaturated this year. Samsung, Google, Apple, and Chinese competitors offer excellent devices, and the differences between them are shrinking year by year. Yet, there is one phone that stands out more than the others. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra doesn’t just do one thing better — it does several things in a way that no one else on the market currently can. After several days with this phone in hand, I have five specific reasons why it deserves the title of the most attractive Android today. 1. Display, performance, and sound where no expense was spared 2. The first 1-inch LOFIC sensor in the brand's history 3. A mechanical telephoto lens that actually zooms 4. Video specifications that rival professional cameras 5. Photography Kit: the phone transforms into a camera Verdict: a phone for those who want more than "just" a flagship 1. Display, performance, and sound where no expense was spared Before we get to the cameras, which are the main draw, it’s fair to say that the Xiaomi 17 Ultra doesn’t cut corners anywhere else either. The 6.9-inch LTPO AMOLED with an adaptive frequency of 1–120 Hz and a peak brightness of 3,500 nits is among the best panels on the market. It supports both Dolby Vision and HDR10+, and the new HyperRGB technology with a redesigned subpixel arrangement promises higher sharpness with lower power consumption. The M10 panel combines higher brightness with better energy efficiency — practically, this means that the display is perfectly readable even in direct sunlight. Inside, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 operates on a 3nm process with Oryon V3 cores clocked at 4.6 GHz — the fastest mobile chipset available today. In AnTuTu, the phone approaches the 2.8 million point mark, and in Geekbench 6, it exceeds 10,800 points in multi-core. These numbers practically mean you won’t wait for anything — whether it’s demanding games, RAW photo processing, or 4K video editing directly on the phone. Add to that Dolby Atmos-certified stereo speakers that play clearly even at higher volumes, an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint reader (faster and more reliable than the optical alternative, works even with wet fingers), Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, and even an infrared port for controlling home appliances. In short, Xiaomi didn’t cut a single item from the basic features. KUP XIAOMI 17 ULTRA VÝHODNĚ 2. The first 1-inch LOFIC sensor in the brand’s history The main camera of the Xiaomi 17 Ultra uses the Light Fusion 1050L sensor — the first 1-inch chip with LOFIC (Lateral Overflow Integration Capacitor) technology in Xiaomi’s history. What does this mean? Conventional smartphones handle high-contrast scenes by stacking multiple images into one — so-called multi-frame HDR. This works, but it has limitations: motion can cause ghosting and artifacts, the live preview doesn’t match the final result, and in extreme backlighting, you have to choose between shadow details and blown-out highlights. LOFIC solves this differently. Each pixel has an additional capacitor next to the photodiode, into which excess charge from very bright parts of the scene overflows. Both signals are read separately and combined later. The result is that the sensor can capture an extreme dynamic range within a single exposure — neon signs won’t be overexposed, streetlights lose their harsh glare, and at the same time, details remain in dark facades and in the shadows under trees. Together with the fast Leica optics f/1.7, the resulting image resembles a high-quality compact camera more than a typical smartphone with exaggerated HDR. 3. A mechanical telephoto lens that actually zooms Most smartphones handle zooming by switching between two or three lenses with fixed focal lengths. The result? Visible jumps in image quality and character between individual modules. The Xiaomi 17 Ultra takes a completely different approach. The 200MP telephoto lens with mechanical variable optical zoom covers a focal length range of 75–100 mm continuously — the lenses physically move inside the module. No digital cropping, no switching. The image remains consistent across the entire range. The lens is based on Leica APO optical standards, and the equivalent focal length with digital zoom reaches up to 400 mm, approximately 17x magnification. In practice, you’ll appreciate this on several levels. For portraits at 75–85 mm, you get pleasant perspective compression with impressive bokeh. One hundred millimeters is suitable for street photography and details. And thanks to its 200 MP resolution, the telephoto lens has enough headroom for slight digital zoom without fine details immediately degrading. 4. Video specifications that rival professional cameras The Xiaomi 17 Ultra offers 4K at 120 fps in both Dolby Vision and ACES Log. This is a specification primarily appreciated by content creators — 120 frames per second at full resolution allows for slow-motion without loss of detail, and the Log format provides maximum room for color correction in post-production. Additionally, the phone handles 8K at 30 fps, recording in 1080p at up to 1,920 fps for extreme slow-motion, and gyro-EIS stabilization, which keeps the shot stable even when walking or running. In combination with the mechanical telephoto lens and a sophisticated OIS system, the results are surprisingly close to what you’d expect from a dedicated video camera — not a smartphone, especially if you work with apps like BlackMagic Camera or MotionCam, where the results are miles better than with the default Camera app. 5. Photography Kit: the phone transforms into a camera The fifth reason isn’t about the phone itself, but about what Xiaomi has built around it. For the 17 Ultra, photographic accessories are available in two versions — and both elevate the photography experience to a completely different level. The basic Photography Kit offers a more compact design, a wrist strap, a two-stage shutter button, and a separate video button with IP54 certification. For most photography enthusiasts, this will be sufficient. However, the premium Photography Kit Pro goes significantly further: a PU leather grip inspired by Leica camera bodies, an integrated 2,000 mAh battery, a detachable shutter button for individual ergonomics, and a special Fastshot interface for professional control. When you slide the phone into the grip, you hold something akin to a compact camera — with all the optics, LOFIC sensor, and mechanical zoom that the Ultra offers. KUP XIAOMI 17 ULTRA VÝHODNĚ Verdict: a phone for those who want more than “just” a flagship The Xiaomi 17 Ultra is not the best phone for everyone. If you’re looking for a compact device, opt for the basic Xiaomi 17. If you want the cleanest software, Samsung or Pixel will serve you better. But if you enjoy mobile photography, if you want technologies that simply aren’t available elsewhere on the market — the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is an extremely fun piece of hardware.
