Alza Days this time hit the brand that Czechs prefer to buy. The 55″ Samsung UE55U8092 now costs 8,393 CZK with code ALZADNY30 instead of 11,990 CZK. And since there are more cheap 55″ TVs on sale, I’ll take an honest look: who this one is worth it for, and who should look elsewhere.

Quick summary:
Makes sense if you want a maintenance-free TV from an established brand with snappy Tizen, all Czech applications, and long software support – for example, for parents or in a bedroom.
⚠️ Consider that the panel only supports 50/60 Hz, the backlighting is edge-type, there’s only one USB port, and a headphone jack is missing. Gamers and picture enthusiasts will find Hisense models with better specs on paper in the same sale.
💡 For 8,393 CZK with code ALZADNY30, you save almost a thousand CZK even against the cheapest competing e-shop – the discount is not just from a crossed-out price.

What you get for that money

The foundation is solid: a 55″ 4K panel, support for HDR10+ and HLG, three HDMI ports, and most importantly, the Tizen system – consistently one of the snappiest TV operating systems with the broadest support for Czech applications. Oneplay, Kuki, SledováníTV, Skylink Live TV, Telly, and Vodafone TV, all directly on the TV, plus Netflix, Disney+, and HBO Max. Apple AirPlay 2 for iPhone mirroring and SmartThings support for smart homes are also included. Furthermore, Samsung promises up to 7 years of updates for this year’s models. For regular viewing and streaming, this is a trouble-free setup that will last.

What to consider

A few things upfront. The panel has a refresh rate of only 50/60 Hz – no 100/120 Hz, which competitors can already offer at this price point. The backlighting is edge-type, so don’t expect miracles in black reproduction from the “local dimming” description. There’s only one USB port, and a headphone jack is completely missing. Customers on Alza (rating 4.4 out of 5, over 100 units sold, return rate under one percent) mainly complain in reviews about sound issues with some video files from USB, mandatory Samsung account registration during initial setup, and advertising buttons on the remote that cannot be remapped. These are not defects of the unit, but characteristics you accept with the purchase.

The discount is real. But the competition isn’t sleeping

First, the good news: this is not a fictitious discount from an inflated price. According to Heureka, the UE55U8092 costs at least 9,347 CZK at other Czech retailers, so with the Alza code, you save about a thousand CZK even against the cheapest competition on the market. If you want this particular Samsung, you won’t find a better price right now.

And now, honestly: in the same sale, there are TVs that offer more on paper for similar money. I recently wrote about the Hisense 55E8Q with Mini LED and 144 Hz for 9,992 CZK and the QLED new arrival Hisense 55E7S for 7,144 CZK. The comparison speaks for itself:

So why would someone choose Samsung? Three real reasons: Tizen with the broadest support for Czech applications and snappy performance, promised long-term software support, and simply trust in the brand – Samsung has a dense service network in our country, and the return rate for this model on Alza is under one percent. If you’re buying a TV for your parents and want it to “just work” for another seven years, it’s a legitimate choice. However, if you play on a console or want the best picture for your money, Hisense wins for me.

Will you pay extra for the brand and ecosystem, or do you always go for the best features for your money?
