If you’re looking for an OLED TV at a reasonable price, you now have a unique opportunity. The Samsung QE65S85F, which was still selling for 50,000 in April, is dropping to 27,743 CZK on Alza with code ALZADNY25.

QD-OLED panel at the price of a regular LCD

The Samsung S85F is the gateway to the world of OLED TVs from this brand. You get a QD-OLED panel, a technology combining quantum dots with organic diodes. The result is infinite contrast with perfect blacks and significantly more vibrant colors than with classic OLED panels. According to independent tests, the TV achieves 98% DCI-P3 color space coverage.

Of course, this model has its limits. Peak brightness in HDR reaches around 750 nits on a 10% area, which is sufficient for most content, but significantly less than with the more expensive S90F or S95F models. In practice, this means that small bright objects in an HDR film will stand out, but large sunny scenes won’t be as dazzling.

AI features that (so far) don’t impress much

Samsung has packed the TV with many features with the AI moniker. The NQ4 AI Gen2 Processor promises image enhancement using 20 neural networks and automatic sound adaptation to the room.

More interesting is the integration with smart home systems via the SmartThings hub, which supports Matter and HCA protocols. The TV can thus serve as a central hub for controlling the entire home. The solar-charging remote control is a nice ecological bonus.

Gaming paradise with one stumble

For gamers, the S85F is an almost ideal choice. All four HDMI ports support the 2.1 standard with full 48 Gbps throughput, so they can handle 4K at 120 Hz with VRR (both FreeSync Premium and HDMI Forum VRR). Input lag is around 5.2 ms at 120 Hz, which is an excellent value. Thanks to OLED technology, pixel transitions are practically instantaneous.

The absence of Dolby Vision, which Samsung stubbornly refuses to implement, is a disappointment. Instead, it offers HDR10+, which works similarly but has significantly less support among streaming services and games.

Who should wait and who should buy now?

For less than 28 thousand, a 65″ QD-OLED TV is a great offer. The Samsung QE65S85F is simply a TV for pragmatists – it offers 90% of the premium OLED experience at half the price. And that’s an offer you shouldn’t ignore if you’re currently in the market for a new TV.
