A decent 85″ Sony Bravia TV got a significant discount! It has MiniLED backlighting, 120 Hz, and supports Dolby Vision

Premium TVs from Sony rarely get discounts worth mentioning. However, the 85″ Bravia 5 has just undergone a price drop that moves it into a completely different category. From the original 66,990 CZK, it’s now available for 39,992 CZK – just enter the code VYPRODE20 at checkout. That’s a decent discount on a Mini LED TV that has earned praise from reviewers and customers alike for its picture quality.

Smart Mini LED

The Bravia 5 represents the entry point into the world of Mini LED technology at Sony. The panel with a 215 cm diagonal works with local dimming, although Sony has kept the exact number of zones to itself. We managed to find out that the 65″ model works with 240 zones, so the 85″ will have significantly more. It won’t be as many as in the more expensive Bravia 7 or Bravia 9 models, but Sony can work surprisingly effectively with a more limited number of zones.

Image processing is handled by the XR processor, which analyzes the scene and adjusts brightness, contrast, and colors to make the result appear natural. In practice, this means deep blacks without a significant halo effect around bright objects, smooth transitions in shadows, and colors that are neither exaggerated nor faded.

Maximum brightness reaches values around 1,200 nits during normal viewing, which is more than enough even for a sunlit living room. The 120 Hz refresh rate ensures smooth motion, whether you’re watching sports or action movies.

Gaming Mode for PlayStation

Sony logically thought of PlayStation 5 owners. Two of the four HDMI ports support the 2.1 standard, meaning 4K resolution at 120 frames per second with Variable Refresh Rate (VRR). The TV automatically recognizes the connected console and switches to low-latency mode.

The Auto HDR Tone Mapping feature allows the console to communicate directly with the TV and optimize HDR output according to its capabilities. Add to that PS Remote Play for streaming games from the console to another room, and a game menu with settings for VRR, black equalizer, or a crosshair for shooters.

Dolby Vision also works in game mode, so you don’t have to choose between low latency and high-quality HDR. What Sony doesn’t offer is HDR10+ support – you’ll find that more with competitors like TCL or Hisense.

Google TV and Acoustic Multi Audio Sound

The system runs on Google TV, so you have access to Netflix, HBO Max, Disney+, YouTube, and Czech services like iVysílání or Oneplay. Sony adds the Sony Pictures Core app with a 24-month free subscription – in the library, you’ll find movies in 4K HDR, including IMAX Enhanced format.

The Acoustic Multi Audio sound system uses actuators placed behind the panel that vibrate the screen itself. This way, sound emanates directly from where the action is happening. A total output of 40 W with Dolby Atmos support is sufficient for casual viewing, but for a true cinema experience, you’ll need a soundbar. Sony offers synchronization with compatible soundbars via the Acoustic Center Sync feature.

Who it makes sense for

85 inches isn’t for everyone. You need a sufficiently large room and a viewing distance of at least 3 meters, ideally more. However, if you have the space and are looking for a large screen with premium quality for a reasonable price, the Bravia 5 for under 40 thousand is a very good offer.
