Samsung is reportedly not planning to release the upcoming ultra-thin smartphone Galaxy S26 Edge, which was supposed to be part of the next flagship series, writes the Korean newspaper Newspim. The decision comes just five months after the launch of the Galaxy S25 Edge and confirms that interest in thin phones with limited battery life is significantly lower than Samsung expected. The new report also mentions that the manufacturer will return to its proven portfolio of three models. The news of the Edge cancellation was independently confirmed by well-known leakers Ice Universe and OnLeaks.

Sales failure decided the fate of the Edge

Newspim server, citing internal Samsung sources, states that the Galaxy S25 Edge achieved sales of only 1.31 million units from its May launch until August. For comparison – the basic Galaxy S25 sold 8.28 million units during the same period, the Plus model 5.05 million, and the premium Ultra even 12.18 million units. This disparity led the company’s management to a radical decision.

According to analysts, the main reasons for the failure were the insufficient battery capacity of only 3,900 mAh and the excessively high price. The Galaxy S25 Edge officially entered the Czech market in mid-August, and Samsung set its recommended price at 31,499 CZK.

Return to the proven trio

According to reports, Samsung has already informed employees about the discontinuation of the Edge series and a return to the traditional format. Thus, at the Unpacked 2026 event in January, we expect the introduction of the Galaxy S26 (which may receive the Pro moniker), Galaxy S26 Plus, and Galaxy S26 Ultra.

Thin phones haven’t impressed anyone yet

Samsung’s decision suggests that the market is not yet ready for the compromises that ultra-thin phones require. Customers still prefer longer battery life and full-featured equipment over an extremely thin body. Samsung, however, launched the Galaxy S25 Edge even before Apple’s anticipated iPhone Air, which shares a similar philosophy of ultra-thin design.

For Samsung, this step means a return to a proven strategy and a focus on premium features instead of design experiments. The change will also affect processor deployment – it is speculated that the S26 and S26 Plus models in Europe will receive the Exynos 2600 chipset, while Snapdragon was originally planned for the Plus.

Would you rather welcome the Galaxy S26 Plus, or the thin Galaxy S26 Edge?
