The Acer Connect M4 is a pocket-sized 5G/LTE modem: you insert a nano SIM with an active data plan, and then connect a laptop, tablet, or other phones via Wi-Fi 6. With code ALZADNY20, Alza sells it for 4,399 CZK. According to the manufacturer, it can handle up to 16 devices simultaneously, and its 8000 mAh battery also serves as a power bank.

Quick summary:
✅ Makes sense: if you regularly need your own mobile connection for multiple devices on the go, for field work, or as a backup for home internet.
⚠️ Consider: also account for a data plan or supported data service. The modem itself does not provide mobile data; before traveling, verify the conditions in the destination country.
💡 On Alza, the modem has a rating of 4.2 out of 5 from 16 reviews. A USB-C to USB-C cable is included in the package.

Connectivity also depends on the plan and country of use

The basis is one nano SIM slot. The manufacturer also states eSIM and virtual SIM support, but their availability depends on the service and country of use. Therefore, before traveling, verify the compatibility of a specific plan. It cannot be assumed that any inserted SIM will automatically allow the use of all local networks.

Other devices connect via Wi-Fi 6, and the specifications state a Wi-Fi transfer speed of 1,200 Mb/s. With multiple connected devices, 2×2 MIMO technology is designed to help, which, according to the description, improves both range and signal quality. The seller anticipates streaming, work, online calls, and gaming.

Internet and charging another device from one unit

The integrated battery has a capacity of 8000 mAh, and according to the seller, other devices can be charged from it. On a trip, one device will thus provide both connectivity and emergency power. The modem has one USB 3.2 Gen 1 port, and a USB-C to USB-C cable is included in the box.

Setup does not necessarily require a computer. There is a colorful 2.4-inch touch display on the body, and a web interface is an alternative. For business use, VPN support is useful for encrypted connections during remote work.

More durable body for a backpack

The modem measures 140 × 86 × 19.1 mm and weighs 295 g, so it fits into a backpack or a larger pocket. Acer states IP68 resistance against dust and water under specified conditions. Alza also mentions MIL-STD 810H certification for demanding outdoor conditions.

6 GHz band support is not certain

The specifications on Alza state Wi-Fi in the 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz bands, but the seller’s description only mentions dual-band 2.4 GHz + 5 GHz. Therefore, do not count on the 6 GHz band for now.

For 4,399 CZK with the code, the Connect M4 makes the most sense for someone who regularly needs internet outside of a fixed line and for multiple devices at once, for example, for field work or as a backup. If occasionally sharing data from your phone is enough for you, you are mainly paying for the durability and built-in battery.

What would you use a portable 5G modem for: travel, field work, or as a backup for home internet?
