An electrically adjustable desk was until recently a luxury that one in ten home office workers acquired for their study. The AlzaErgo Table ET2 with code ALZADNY35 reached 5 194 Kč, placing it in a price range where it no longer makes sense to debate whether it’s worth considering – it is.

What you get for five thousand

The base is a single-motor steel frame with a load capacity of 80 kg and a range from 73 to 123 cm. The motor runs quietly (the manufacturer states max. 50 dB, according to reviews possibly even less), it can handle a full desk with monitors, a computer, and a person leaning on it during adjustment. Control is handled by a button panel with a display, where you can save three most frequent positions – once you set “sit”, “stand”, and for example “child doing homework”, and then it’s just one click.

A positive detail is the anti-collision system with adjustable sensitivity. Upon impact with an obstacle, the motor stops and moves back a bit – it doesn’t crush things you’ve forgotten under the desk. Also practical is the position change reminder timer. You choose the desktop separately; the manufacturer recommends dimensions of 100–180 × 70–85 cm and a thickness of at least 1.8 cm – you can buy one like that virtually anywhere, including IKEA.

What to watch out for

Main point: the minimum height of 73 cm is not for everyone. Reviews on Alza repeatedly state that if you are under 175 cm tall, even with a low chair, you won’t achieve an ergonomically correct position with your feet on the ground and forearms horizontal. However, for taller people (180+), it’s ideal. Second detail – after some time, some users have to reset the desk because the minimum position gradually shifts upwards. Resetting takes a few seconds by holding a button. It’s also worth mentioning the plastic shaft mounting, which, according to some experiences, can break with rough handling.
