After years, we finally get it! Smart home can now be controlled in Czech thanks to Gemini

After years of Google Assistant being unavailable in our language, which prevented controlling smart home products with Czech voice commands, we are apparently seeing an unexpected change. Without any official announcement, an extension for Google Home has arrived in the Czech Google Gemini mobile application, thanks to which we can control the smart home remotely using both text and voice commands.

The biggest progress in recent years without proper notice

The Czech representation of Google tends to inform about significant changes in the Gemini platform through press releases or by publishing a post on the domestic, publicly available blog. Recently, for example, the availability of the generative model Veo 3 for Czech users was announced this way.

Although the availability of the Google Home extension appears to be the biggest change related to the availability of Google’s smart assistants in our market, there is no sign or mention of this news on official channels. It has only quietly appeared in the mobile application, where it is located among other extensions (Gemini uses the name Applications for them) in the menu after typing an “@” symbol into the text field – for some reason, however, in the Disabled section. In the Applications menu, where individual extensions can be enabled or disabled, it does not yet appear for me (it should, however, be located in the Device Control section, where it normally shows up after switching the application to English).

Works strangely, but it works

Given the phenomenon mentioned above, I wouldn’t hesitate to say that Google Home in the Czech Gemini interface works strangely for now. However, the extension apparently fulfills its primary role. As soon as I ask Gemini to turn on the lights – with a Czech command in text form – it connects to the Google Home service and performs the requested task. It will do the same if I give the command verbally when I have the overlay activated.

It is also strange that Czech is still listed as a language not supported by Google Assistant.

Official launch is (apparently) imminent

It has happened a few times in the past that we reported on the availability of new features in Czech Gemini before Google itself presented them to the media and the public. It is therefore very likely that an official announcement is imminent and we will see it by the end of the week. Otherwise, given the importance of this news, we would be surprised.
