After more than four years, Apple has introduced the second generation of its premium over-ear headphones. AirPods Max 2 are now available for pre-order for 13,990 CZK and will be delivered in early April. Compared to the first generation, they feature an H2 chip, a USB-C port, improved ANC, and a range of intelligent functions.

Quick Summary:
Makes sense if you are in the Apple ecosystem, want top-tier sound quality and ANC for all-day wear, and don’t mind the premium price.
⚠️ Consider alternatives if you prefer more compact in-ear headphones or primarily use Android – you’ll unlock the full potential of AirPods Max 2 mainly with Apple devices.
💡 For 13,990 CZK, you get Hi-Fi audio, 1.5× more effective ANC, lossless audio via USB-C, and features like adaptive audio or instant translation.

What’s New in AirPods Max 2

The main change is the transition to the H2 chip, which Apple uses in AirPods Pro 2. Thanks to it, AirPods Max 2 are equipped with up to 1.5× more effective active noise cancellation than the first generation. In practice, this means better filtering out of airplane engines, train noise, or cafe hustle and bustle. New computational audio algorithms also compensate for ambient noise without reducing the quality of the played audio.

The second significant change is the transition from Lightning to USB-C. This isn’t just about more practical charging – USB-C enables wired connection with lossless audio and exceptionally low latency. It supports 24-bit audio with a 48 kHz sample rate, which will be appreciated by audiophiles and musicians working in Logic Pro. For gamers, there’s a gaming mode with lower wireless audio latency.

New Intelligent Features Thanks to the H2 Chip

The H2 chip brings a range of features that were missing in the first generation. Adaptive Audio automatically adjusts the level of noise cancellation according to the environment – behaving differently in a quiet office than in a noisy cafe. Conversation Awareness recognizes when you start speaking, automatically lowers playback volume, and amplifies voices in front of you. After the conversation ends, the volume returns to its original level.

For Apple Intelligence users, there’s Instant Translation – a feature that allows real-time communication across languages. Voice Isolation during calls prioritizes your voice and suppresses ambient noise. Also included is Siri communication via nodding or shaking your head – allowing you to respond to notifications without saying anything.

Sound and Design: What Remained, What Improved

Apple retained the iconic design with a breathable mesh headband and acoustic memory foam ear cushions. The rotating earcups made of anodized aluminum adapt to the shape of the head. Control is provided by the Digital Crown – rotate to adjust volume, press to control playback or answer calls. The weight is 386.2 g.

Sonically, AirPods Max 2 feature a new high dynamic range amplifier that delivers richer bass, more natural mids, and more detailed highs. Personalized Spatial Audio with dynamic head tracking uses a gyroscope and accelerometer to orient sound according to head movements – when watching movies or playing games, the sound literally surrounds you. Adaptive EQ adjusts the sound to how the ear cushions fit on your ears.

Practical Aspects: Battery Life, Charging, Accessories

Battery life is up to 20 hours of listening with ANC and Spatial Audio enabled – the same as the first generation. Charging is via USB-C, so you can use the same cable as for iPhone 15 and newer, iPad, or Mac. The package includes a Smart Case protective cover, which switches the headphones into an ultra-low power mode.

Connectivity is provided by Bluetooth 5.3 with a range of up to 10 meters. The headphones support automatic switching between Apple devices – you can listen to music from your Mac and seamlessly answer a call from your iPhone. On-head detection pauses playback when you take the headphones off. Audio Sharing allows two people to listen from a single source.

Available Colors and Price

AirPods Max 2 are available in five colors: Dark Ink (black), Starlight (white), Blue, Purple, and Orange. All variants cost 13,990 CZK. They are currently available for pre-order on Alza with priority delivery – once Apple begins sales (in early April), you will be among the first to receive the headphones. The pre-order also includes a guarantee: if the price drops when sales begin, Alza will refund the difference.

When It Doesn’t Make Sense

If you primarily use Android, you won’t unlock the full potential of AirPods Max 2 – features like adaptive audio, Conversation Awareness, or instant translation require iOS/iPadOS/macOS. The headphones will function as regular Bluetooth headphones, but without the smart features. Similarly, if you prefer a more compact in-ear solution – AirPods Max 2 are large and heavy over-ear headphones, not discreet earbuds. And for 13,990 CZK, there are alternatives from Sony or Bose that offer comparable sound quality at a lower price – but without integration into the Apple ecosystem.

Verdict: Who Are AirPods Max 2 For

For 13,990 CZK, you get premium headphones with an H2 chip, 1.5× more effective ANC, USB-C with lossless audio, 20 hours of battery life, and intelligent features like adaptive audio or Conversation Awareness. If you are in the Apple ecosystem, want top-tier sound quality for work, travel, or relaxation, and don’t mind the premium price, AirPods Max 2 are a logical choice. Compared to the first generation, they bring everything fans expected – especially USB-C and smart features thanks to the H2 chip.

Do you use over-ear headphones, or do you prefer more compact in-ear earbuds?
