Amazing discount: AirPods Max now available in Czechia for only 6,990 CZK, but you have to hurry

AirPods Max have always been headphones that divided people into two camps: some loved them for their sound and build quality, others shook their heads at the price. That second argument has now disappeared. You can buy the USB-C version for 6,990 CZK instead of 11,390 CZK, and that is the lowest price these headphones have ever been sold for in Czechia.

Be careful which version it actually is

It’s important to be precise here, because three different things are sold under the name AirPods Max today. The original 2020 model had a Lightning connector and is now an outdated piece. The newest second generation, on the other hand, is a full-fledged new generation and costs 13,990 CZK, which is double the price.

And then there’s this model in the middle. Apple introduced it in 2024, and it’s more of a refresh than a new generation – the same H1 chip, the same drivers, the same ANC, but USB-C instead of Lightning and new colors: Starlight, Midnight, Blue, Pink, and Green. Sonically, it doesn’t differ from the original model, but with one important addition that appeared later: it was the USB-C version that received an update supporting lossless audio over cable at 24-bit / 48 kHz quality and a low-latency mode for creators. The Lightning version never received this capability and never will. That’s the main reason why this interim generation still makes sense.

What you get for seven thousand

First and foremost, a construction that is unparalleled in this category. While Sony and Bose rely on plastic, AirPods Max feature aluminum earcups, a steel frame, and a mesh-covered headband – they still look good after years of use, and nothing loosens or creaks on them. The ear cushions are also magnetically attached, so they can be easily replaced when worn out.

Sonically, they are still top-notch – spatial audio with dynamic head tracking, adaptive equalization, and active noise cancellation, which is among the best on the market. The 20-hour battery life even with ANC on is decent, and they simply work within the Apple ecosystem: you put them on, and they are paired with your iPhone, iPad, and Mac, switching automatically. The Digital Crown, borrowed from the Apple Watch, is still the best way to control volume on headphones – no fumbling with a touch surface.

Weaknesses Apple never fixed

Aluminum comes at a cost – 385 grams is noticeable on the head, and you’ll want to take a break after a few hours of listening. The headphones also cannot be folded, so they take up a significant amount of space in a backpack, and the notorious Smart Case is the most criticized accessory in Apple’s history: it doesn’t cover the headband, protects virtually nothing, and mainly serves to put the headphones to sleep. There’s no power switch.

Furthermore, the H1 chip is a generation behind newer AirPods, and features found even in cheaper models are missing. At the original eleven thousand, these would be relevant criticisms. For 6,990 CZK, these are the cheapest premium headphones with an aluminum body and top-notch ANC you can buy on the market – and if you don’t mind the weight, it’s hard to find a better purchase. Whoever wants the latest generation should wait for a discount on the second generation; however, that one currently costs double.
