Two weeks ago, we informed you about the upcoming Xiaomi 17 Max, which was expected to impress primarily with its giant 8,000mAh battery. At the time, there were speculations about it adopting the camera setup from the standard Xiaomi 17. However, a new leak from Digital Chat Station suggests an unexpected change.

200Mpx main sensor instead of 50Mpx

According to the latest information, the Xiaomi 17 Max is expected to feature a yet-to-be-announced 200Mpx Samsung ISOCELL HPE sensor with a size of 1/1.4″. It remains to be seen how it will perform in low-light conditions, as it has a slightly smaller optical format than the 50Mpx sensor used by the base Xiaomi 17. The main camera will reportedly be complemented by a 50Mpx Sony periscope telephoto lens from the IMX8 series (with a size of 1/1.95″) and a 50Mpx ultrawide lens. The collaboration with Leica is also expected to continue with this model.

Rest of the specifications unchanged

As for the rest of the specifications, there is currently no indication of any change compared to previous rumors. The Xiaomi 17 Max is therefore expected to offer a 6.9″ display, a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, and the aforementioned 8,000mAh battery with support for 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. Unlike the Pro and Pro Max versions, it will not feature a secondary rear display.

The phone is expected to arrive on the Chinese market in the second quarter of 2026. Unfortunately, a global launch is not anticipated – Xiaomi will likely only offer the standard 17 model and the Ultra version outside of China.
