Google is releasing a new update, Android Auto 14.9, which finally brings full support for Material You color accents based on your phone’s set wallpaper. This is a significant improvement over previous versions where this feature was severely limited.

Material You now works across the entire interface

As reported by 9to5Google, the new version of Android Auto finally respects the color accents from the phone’s theme throughout the entire user interface. This is most visible in the Settings app and in notifications, where, in addition to button colors, the overall background tone also changes.

Unlike the previous implementation in Android Auto 13.4, which only worked with a few limited colors, the new version can instantly react to changes in the phone’s wallpaper. The system adapts automatically without requiring any manual setup.

The new feature is being rolled out gradually

The new feature is appearing in the beta version of Android Auto 14.9, but some users may have noticed it in recent days. Google is likely using a server-side gradual rollout, so not all users will receive the new feature simultaneously.

In July, we wrote about Android Auto 14.8, which prepared the ground for the arrival of the Gemini AI assistant and brought a new shortcut to Google Maps. The latest update thus focuses primarily on visual improvements to the user interface.

Have you already noticed Material You colors in your Android Auto?
