Several months after Google confirmed the upcoming merger of ChromeOS and Android into a single system, we learn that the company and its partners are likely preparing the first computers running Android. As reported by analyst @Jukanlosreve, they should be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X processors. This is based on a leaked image he published on the social network X.

Qualcomm is apparently working on Android 16 support

The leaked screenshot captures Qualcomm’s internal repository, which contains manifests for various firmware components required for the Android environment. Specifically, these are manifests for the camera subsystem, Bluetooth, audio subsystem, and other elements. All these components indicate that Qualcomm engineers are actively working on supporting Android 16 for Snapdragon X chips.

Interestingly, the changes are active for chips with the model designation SC8380, which corresponds to Snapdragon X processors. According to the leak, however, Qualcomm has not yet implemented support for the second generation of these chips.

The merger of Android and ChromeOS is… approaching?

This development comes several months after Google confirmed plans to merge ChromeOS and Android into a single platform. In July 2025, Sameer Samat, President of the Android ecosystem at Google, revealed this during an interview with TechRadar. The merger of both systems could create a unified platform for phones, tablets, and laptops.

However, it is questionable how close the launch of Android computers actually is. The fact is that even Android 16 still does not have a full-fledged desktop mode. Although Google has long been experimenting with various multitasking features, it has not yet managed to deliver an environment that would effectively allow, for example, working with multiple windows or using keyboard shortcuts.

We are still waiting for confirmation of Android PCs

It is important to emphasize that no official confirmation from Qualcomm or Google regarding the alleged development of Android PCs has been released yet. Even if the leaked information is true, it does not unequivocally guarantee that Snapdragon X processors will appear in real products with Android instead of Windows or Linux.

While Google and Qualcomm are experimenting with Android laptops, the competition is taking the opposite approach. Apple is reportedly planning to use iPhone chips for cheaper MacBooks – last week it even emerged that their production had already begun.

Are you looking forward to Android laptops, or do you prefer Windows?
