Another super new feature from One UI 9.5 leaks. Samsung will let you create your own widget

The list of new features for the upcoming One UI 9.5 overlay is growing. According to a fresh leak, Samsung is refining a feature that will allow you to compose your home screen with widgets tailored precisely to your needs.

X user Fahad Ali Javed came across the discovery, having published that Samsung is testing a tool called My Custom Widget in a test version of the overlay. We wrote about the first design changes of One UI 9.5 last week; custom widget creation is another piece of the puzzle. The new feature apparently stems from the Create Your Own Widget function that Google is preparing for Android 17.

How do you compose your widget?

The principle is simple: you select specific data, and the system displays it in a widget according to the layout you choose. In the leaked screenshot, the user combines Calendar and Messages apps into a single tile, through which they then share travel plans with friends.

The widget has a so-called modular split layout – two separate widgets function side-by-side in one tile, not tied to any specific application. The creation process itself is not yet visible, but according to 9to5Google, it will most likely resemble Google’s approach: you describe what the widget should display, and the tool will automatically assign the necessary applications and shortcuts.

Samsung has already taken a similar path. With the arrival of One UI 9.0, it added the ability to compose custom cards to the Now Brief feature. Widget creation would thus be a logical continuation – just one level higher, directly on the phone’s home screen.

When will One UI 9.5 arrive?

Someone extracted the feature from a non-public test version, so it may still change into its final form or be dropped entirely. One UI 9.5 is expected early next year, likely alongside the Galaxy S27 series. Google showed its version of the tool in May and plans to launch it on Pixels and Galaxy phones this summer.
