Another ultra-thin smartphone is heading to sale, the iPhone 17 Air will likely only envy its battery size

When Tecno introduced the concept of the ultra-thin Tecno Spark Slim smartphone at this year’s WDC, it was supposed to be the thinnest current smartphone in the world. Compared to the concept, however, its thickness increased by 0.2 mm to 5.95 mm, making the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge currently unsurpassed in this regard. Tecno, however, scores in another area, and that is battery capacity, which here is 5,200 mAh.

5,200 mAh in an ultra-thin body

With this capacity, I dare say that with proper optimization, it will not represent a painful compromise in relation to the lowest possible body thickness. For comparison, the aforementioned Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge contains a battery with a capacity of 3,900 mAh.

According to leaks from trusted sources, the upcoming iPhone 17 Air is expected to offer an even smaller 2,900mAh battery, but it would reportedly have an even thinner profile, at 5.5 mm at its thinnest point. Although – with all due respect to Tecno – I believe that Samsung and Apple will manage optimization somewhat better, it does not seem probable to me that they would be able to compensate for the deficit in battery capacities.

As for the other features of the Tecno Spark Slim, another ultra-thin smartphone on the market, even in its serial form, should offer a metal construction, a 6.78″ AMOLED with 4,500 nits brightness and a 144Hz refresh rate. Two 50 MPx cameras on the back should also be retained, with one being the primary and the other an ultrawide, naturally.

Charging is expected to be at 45 W, and according to unconfirmed reports, everything will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 chipset. The availability in specific markets remains a question mark, however, in India, the phone is expected to go on sale for 80,000 rupees, which translates to approximately 19,000 CZK. This, given the alleged chipset, is not exactly cheap, but we will see what the reality will be.
