With a door sensor, you usually have to figure out where to stick its two parts so they align correctly. The Aqara P100 uses a one-piece design: you stick the sensor itself and don’t have to align a second component against it. Alza is now offering the white variant of the Multi-State Sensor P100 Kit for 607 Kč with code ALZADNY20. It is particularly interesting because, in addition to door opening, it can also monitor object manipulation, depending on the chosen connection.

Quick summary:
✅ Makes sense for: monitoring the opening of doors, windows, but also refrigerators or safes, which the manufacturer explicitly lists among the possible uses.
⚠️ Consider: full functionality is achieved with an Aqara hub via Zigbee in the Aqara Home app. Via Matter over Thread, only the door or window open/close mode works; object movement monitoring remains exclusive to Zigbee with an Aqara hub.
💡 You don’t have to enable all types of notifications. You can select only the desired events, such as movement or fall; according to Aqara, this reduces unnecessary notifications and extends battery life.

Drawer movement and mail delivery notifications

The object tracking mode recognizes movement, tilt, vibration, fall, and face-up or face-down orientation. Aqara gives the example of a drawer, where the sensor detects manipulation, or a mailbox, where it reacts to vibrations or tilting upon delivery. When a change is detected, it can trigger an audible alarm via the hub and send a notification to the app. The sensor is designed for indoor use and must not be exposed to direct rain; it is not suitable for uncovered outdoor mailboxes.

The sensor’s behavior can be fine-tuned using 10 sensitivity levels. In Aqara Home, event history and graphs then allow you to retrospectively determine when movement, tilting, or opening occurred. It’s not just about instant phone notifications.

Matter for home connectivity, events for automations

Via Thread and Matter, the sensor can be integrated into Google Home, Apple Home, Amazon Alexa, Samsung SmartThings, or Home Assistant. You need a Matter controller and a Thread Border Router; a phone alone is not enough. The door mode recognizes rotation, so it is not designed for sliding doors or drawers. These can be monitored using the object tracking mode via Zigbee; both modes cannot be enabled simultaneously. Even when using Zigbee, it doesn’t have to remain confined to the Aqara ecosystem: connectivity via Matter can be facilitated by its compatible Zigbee hub.

The manufacturer also shows a specific automation: if the balcony door remains open for 10 minutes, the air conditioning is running, and the room is empty, the smart home will turn it off. In such a scenario, the sensor provides information about the door; the shutdown is the result of a rule that also works with the air conditioning status and room occupancy.

What would you like to monitor at home: door opening, or the movement of a specific object?
