Google continues to make cosmetic adjustments to its applications, and this time the Gemini for Android widget has received an update. The new design brings more pronounced rounding and a more playful look, which is intended to differentiate the widget from the rest of the home screen. The change comes just before the launch of new Gemini Live features.

Rounder and More Prominent Than Before

Instead of a rectangle, the widget now has significantly rounded corners, which vary by size. The single-row variant with icons has a more rounded left side that matches the main button for opening the app. Two- and three-row widgets, on the other hand, have prominent curves at the top.

Old vs. new Gemini widgets:

The “Ask Gemini” pill has returned to its prominent color highlighting based on Dynamic Color, which Google had previously removed. This makes the widget appear more playful and definitely unmissable – which is likely the intention.

How to Get the New Widget

The update comes in version 1.0.795460806 of the Gemini app, which is rolling out via Google Play. The app itself is mainly responsible for the home screen icon, widgets, and system sharing targets – all functionality runs through the Google app, and new features are activated server-side.

After the update, simply add the widget to your home screen again – the old one will not change automatically. You can choose from three sizes depending on how much space you want to dedicate to Gemini.
