When it starts getting dark around six in the evening in October and a cold wind greets you outside, it’s a sign that your home could use a bit of cozy lighting. And if you don’t just want classic Christmas lights, we have an interesting tip for you: the Philips Hue Outdoor Strip smart LED strip.

An outdoor strip that can withstand the Czech winter

The Philips Hue Outdoor Strip is a flexible 2-meter LED strip that can easily handle adverse weather. It has IP67 certification, so heavy rain, snow, or frost won’t harm it. You can therefore install it on your terrace, along a walkway, on a railing, or even wrap it around a tree – and you don’t have to worry about the first November storm destroying it.

The strip is designed so you don’t have to hide it. The diffuse coating disperses light evenly in all directions, so you won’t see individual LED diodes, but only a clean, pleasant glow. This works for both direct lighting (when you stick it along a path) and indirect lighting (when you hide it behind a flowerpot or under the edge of a terrace).

From Halloween orange to Christmas red and green

The main magic of the Philips Hue outdoor strip lies in its offering of 16 million colors and 50,000 shades of white light – from cool blue to cozy warm. In practice, this means you can set up spooky orange lighting for Halloween, calm warm white light for autumn evenings on the terrace, and switch to classic Christmas red during December.

And because it’s smart lighting, you don’t have to switch anything manually. Just set a schedule in the Philips Hue app: warm white from October to November, automatic transition to a Christmas scene at the beginning of December. Or you can create your own color animations – for example, a slow transition from blue to purple that will repeat all evening.

Where you can install it

Two meters of the strip give you decent freedom. You can use it, for example, for:

  • Walkway lighting – create a pleasant atmosphere along the path to your house and simultaneously increase safety
  • Terrace or balcony – stick the strip under the edge of the railing or under a bench
  • Tree or bush – wrap the strip around the trunk and you have effective lighting for the whole year
  • House facade – highlight architectural elements or simply liven up a dull wall
  • Outdoor stairs – a practical and aesthetic solution for evening arrivals home

In the package, you will find mounting clips and screws, so installation will take a maximum of half an hour. The strip is flexible, can be bent and shaped as needed. The only thing you need is an outdoor power outlet – the power adapter is, of course, included in the package.

Smart features: timers, automation, voice control

The Philips Hue Outdoor Strip requires connection to a Philips Hue Bridge (sold separately for approximately 1,500 CZK). If you already have some Hue lighting at home, no problem – just add the strip to your existing system. If you’re starting from scratch, you’ll need to account for an additional investment.

The advantage of the Philips Hue ecosystem is that it works really reliably. You can set up automatic illumination at sunset, turning off at midnight, and repeating every day. Or you can create a “Movie Night on the Terrace” scene that lights up the strip to 30% brightness with a warm white color – and starts with a single tap in the app.

How much does it cost and is it worth it?

The Philips Hue Outdoor Strip sells for 2,999 CZK. If you don’t have a Hue Bridge, you need to add another approximately 1,500 CZK. The total investment therefore comes to just under 4,500 CZK – which is not a small amount, but for that, you get a premium product with a declared lifespan of 25,000 hours (when used 3 hours a day, that’s over 20 years).

Compared to cheap LED strips from Aliexpress, it is, of course, more expensive, but also substantially more reliable. Philips Hue has an excellent ecosystem, regular app updates, and most importantly – the outdoor strip truly withstands the Czech winter. Cheap alternatives often fail after the first season.

Verdict: a great investment for years to come

If you’re looking for a way to enhance the atmosphere around your home in autumn and winter, the Philips Hue Outdoor Strip is a great choice. It’s not the cheapest solution, but for the money, you get lighting that will last you decades, handle any weather, and offer endless customization possibilities.
