Black Friday on Alza.cz brings an interesting discount on premium wireless headphones Huawei FreeBuds Pro 4. You can currently get them for 3,699 CZK, which is 1,300 crowns less than the original 4,999 CZK, for which they were sold since January of this year. These are some of the most technically interesting headphones on the market, but they have remained somewhat in the shadow of the competition.

Lossless sound that few will hear

FreeBuds Pro 4 are built on the proprietary codec Huawei L2HC 4.0, which can transmit audio at speeds up to 2.3 Mb/s. This is significantly more than common codecs like AAC or SBC. The earbuds are certified for HWA Lossless and Hi-Res Wireless Audio, ensuring every tone is transmitted with maximum fidelity.

The problem? You’ll only unlock the full potential of the L2HC 4.0 codec with a Huawei phone. With Android or iPhone, you’ll have to settle for LDAC or AAC, which are still very solid codecs, especially the former.

Dual drivers and tuning by musicians

Huawei opted for a dual-driver configuration: an 11mm quad-magnet dynamic unit for booming bass down to 14 Hz and a planar diaphragm tweeter for clear highs up to 48 kHz. The sound tuning was handled by musicians from the prestigious Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing.

Furthermore, the earbuds perform real-time equalizer adjustments based on volume, ear canal structure, and wearing style. The improved triple adaptive equalizer aims to guarantee optimal sound in every situation.

ANC with AI and calls in the wind

Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) uses artificial intelligence algorithms and, according to the manufacturer, can suppress ambient noise up to 100 dB – the level of noise in a subway or at a concert. A reverse bone conduction microphone and three additional microphones contribute to this.

The earbuds are designed to handle clear calls even at wind speeds of up to 10 m/s. For everyday use on the subway or street, they perform excellently.

33 hours battery life and fast charging

Each earbud has a 55 mAh battery, and the case has 510 mAh. Together, this provides up to 33 hours of playback with ANC off. The earbuds themselves last 4.5 hours, which is average.

Charging is relatively fast – the earbuds in the case charge in 40 minutes via a USB-C cable. The case itself needs an hour wired or 2.5 hours wirelessly. FreeBuds Pro 4 support wireless charging, so you can charge them on a Qi pad, for example.

Comfortable to wear, but not for everyone

The earbuds are IP54 certified, so they can handle rain or sweat during running. The package includes silicone ear tips in four sizes (XS, S, M, L) and also three-layer memory foam ear tips in three sizes.

Memory foam provides better passive isolation and, according to Huawei, suppresses 30% more ambient noise than standard silicone tips. The problem is that they don’t fit everyone – some Reddit users report that regular silicone ear tips are more comfortable.

An interesting feature is head gesture control – you can answer an incoming call by nodding or reject it by shaking your head. FreeBuds Pro 4 support dual connection, so you can have them connected to both your phone and laptop simultaneously.

Are they worth 3,699 CZK?

At the promotional price, you get earbuds with top-notch audio performance, solid ANC, and good battery life. International reviewers consistently praise the sound quality and call quality. A weaker point is the transparent mode (Awareness mode), which doesn’t match the quality of, for example, AirPods. If you have a Huawei phone, the choice is clear. With a regular Android or iPhone, however, you will still get quality earbuds, you just won’t utilize the full potential of the L2HC 4.0 codec.
