OpenAI introduced the ChatGPT Pulse feature, which embodies another practical use of artificial intelligence. Instead of constantly having to proactively ask questions, ChatGPT will bring you a tailored summary of information every morning. However, you probably won’t get access to it yet.

A personal assistant that works while you sleep

ChatGPT Pulse works on the principle of asynchronous research. Every night, it analyzes your chat history, stored preferences in memory, and potentially connected applications. In the morning, you’ll receive a set of visual cards with updates that you can quickly browse or open for detailed information.

For example, the system monitors topics you frequently discuss and automatically searches for new information. If you were discussing travel to London yesterday, in the morning you’ll find tips for interesting places. If you mention that you’re training for a triathlon, you’ll receive suggestions for training plans or new running routes in your area.

Integration with calendar and email

Pulse allows you to connect Gmail and Google Calendar for additional context. This integration is disabled by default and can be activated or deactivated at any time in the settings. With a connected calendar, ChatGPT can:

  • Prepare a draft agenda for an upcoming meeting
  • Remind you to buy a birthday gift based on calendar events
  • Recommend restaurants at your planned travel destination
  • Create a Friday overview of local events for the weekend

You decide what appears

The feature includes a „curate“ button, which you can use to tell ChatGPT what information you want to see in future overviews. You can ask for current information from the world of professional tennis, tips for learning new skills, or perhaps quick recipes for healthy dinners. The system remembers your feedback and gradually learns what is relevant to you. Each update is available for only one day, unless you save it as a chat or ask about it.

Practical examples from students

OpenAI collaborated with students within the ChatGPT Lab to gather feedback. One of the students, Isaac Seiler, describes his experience: „I received recommendations based on yesterday’s conversation about planning time off during a grant in Taiwan. ChatGPT automatically found information about train connections and transportation that I would never have looked for myself.“

Other students appreciate features such as combining various interests into one update, tracking long-term projects, or reminders to complete unfinished tasks.

What are the current limitations?

ChatGPT Pulse is currently a preview version that doesn’t always hit the mark. You might receive tips for a project you’ve already completed, or suggestions that aren’t relevant. However, the system learns from your feedback and improves over time.

OpenAI plans to expand support for other applications and add the option to deliver updates throughout the day – for example, a quick check before a meeting or a reminder to finish a draft. The goal is to create an AI assistant that proactively works on your tasks, even when you’re not actively asking it anything.

As a regular user, you won’t get access to the feature yet

ChatGPT Pulse is currently available only in the mobile application, and only for Pro plan subscribers. This costs 200 dollars per month. The head of OpenAI stated in a post on platform X that the company will try to find a way to eventually bring the feature to subscribers of the cheaper Plus membership as well.

Would you use a feature that prepares tailored information for you every morning?
