When the Samsung UE85U8072 arrived on the Czech market in April 2025 for 39,990 CZK, it was among the more affordable 85″ TVs, but it still cost almost 40 thousand. Over time, the price dropped to 30 thousand, and now in October, the TV is with code ALZADNY20 for 23,992 CZK. This is a drop of 16 thousand crowns in half a year, making it the cheapest 85″ TV from Samsung on the Czech market. Together with the Hisense 85E6NT, it offers the largest diagonal for the lowest price from verified brands.

What you get for 24 thousand

The Samsung UE85U8072 offers an 85″ diagonal (215.9 cm) with 4K Ultra HD resolution (3840 × 2160 pixels). The panel uses LED technology with Edge LED backlighting and local dimming. This doesn’t mean hundreds of zones like MiniLED, but a basic division of the screen into areas that can be dimmed independently. It supports HDR10, HDR10+, and HLG for better contrast and more vibrant colors.

The panel’s refresh rate is 50/60 Hz, which is sufficient for movies and series, but not a choice for demanding gamers. For regular content viewing from Netflix, Disney+, or HBO Max, it is perfectly adequate. The TV offers game mode (GAME MODE), VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), but with a 60Hz panel, it won’t provide a competitive advantage like 120Hz displays.

The Tizen OS system is one of Samsung’s advantages over competitors in this price category. It runs fast and smoothly, applications launch instantly, and you have access to Czech services like Oneplay, Kuki, SledováníTV, Skylink Live TV, as well as global platforms. Samsung promises up to 7 years of updates, so the TV will remain secure and functional for a long time.

Realistic Expectations: Edge LED is not MiniLED

Let’s be honest – for 24 thousand, you won’t get top-tier image quality. Edge LED backlighting means that LED diodes are placed only along the edges of the panel, not evenly across the entire surface. This has several consequences:

Black is not truly black – In dark scenes, you will see grey tones instead of deep black colors. OLED or MiniLED TVs have incomparably better contrast, but they are also (in this size) significantly more expensive.

Blooming effect – Around bright objects on a dark background, a “glow” may be visible. For example, subtitles on a black background might have a grey halo around them.

Uneven backlighting – Especially in the corners, the image may be slightly brighter or darker than in the center.

Local Dimming partially compensates for this by dimming areas of the image that are supposed to be dark, but it doesn’t have hundreds of zones like premium TVs. The result is better than a TV completely without local dimming, but still far from OLED.

Who this TV makes sense for

The Samsung UE85U8072 is not a TV for demanding viewers who want the absolute best picture. But there are situations where it makes perfect sense:

You want the largest possible picture for the least money – An 85″ diagonal is enormous. For comparison, it’s almost like a projection screen. For 24 thousand, you won’t get a better size-to-price ratio from a verified brand.
You watch content from common platforms – Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max look great thanks to 4K resolution and HDR10+. It’s not a reference image, but it’s perfectly sufficient for regular series and movies.
Party room or public space – Pub, fitness center, office – anywhere you need a large TV for multiple people.
Second TV for the home – You have an OLED in the living room, but you want something big and cheap for the game room or garage.

It’s not suitable if:

You watch a lot of dark movies – Horrors, sci-fi, dark thrillers will suffer from the poor contrast of Edge LED
You are a demanding gamer – A 60Hz panel is not ideal for competitive gaming, although it’s sufficient for single-player games
You want reference image quality – At this price, you simply won’t get OLED or Full Array Local Dimming with hundreds of zones
You have a small room – An 85″ TV needs at least 3-4 meters distance, otherwise you’ll be sitting too close

Sound and Connectivity: Basic Features

Built-in speakers with 20 W output and support for Dolby Digital+ and surround sound are a weak link. For a TV of this size, it’s not enough – we recommend purchasing a soundbar. However, Samsung offers the Q-Symphony feature, which synchronizes sound from the TV and soundbar together for a better spatial effect.

Connectivity includes 3× HDMI 2.1, 1× USB, LAN port, WiFi 5, Bluetooth, and DLNA. It supports Apple AirPlay 2 for streaming from an iPhone or Mac. The integrated SmartThings hub allows you to control your smart home directly from the TV.

DVB-T2 HEVC, DVB-S2, and DVB-C tuners cover all types of broadcasting in Czechia. The Skylink Fast Scan feature quickly finds available programs.

Verdict: The Biggest Picture for the Least Money

The Samsung UE85U8072 for 23,992 CZK with code ALZADNY20 is the cheapest way to get an 85″ TV from Samsung. It’s not a top-tier model with an OLED panel or MiniLED backlighting for 80 thousand, but if you want the biggest possible picture for the least money, this is one of the best choices.

Fast Tizen OS, 7 years of updates, and a solid 4K picture with HDR10+ are sufficient for regular viewing of Netflix, sports broadcasts, or gaming.

The price dropped by 16 thousand in half a year, so if you’ve been waiting for the right moment, this is a good opportunity. For 24 thousand, you simply won’t get an 85″ TV with a better price/performance ratio from a verified brand.
