A week after the Galaxy S25 series, the stable One UI 8 based on Android 16 is also coming to last year’s foldables. The Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Z Fold 6 are receiving a major update in South Korea, which traditionally means that the rest of the world will have to wait a few more days. Perhaps weeks.

Beta testers only need 600 MB, others will download gigabytes

The firmware is labeled F741NKSU2CYI6 for Z Flip 6 and F956NKSU2CYI7 for Z Fold 6. Those who tested the beta will only download a 600 MB differential update. Regular users will need to free up 4 GB of space.

Now Bar and other new features we already know from Galaxy S25

The main highlight of One UI 8 is the Now Bar – a lock screen widget that displays live activities. It works similarly to Dynamic Island on the iPhone, just lower and without a cutout. You can see a timer, navigation, music player, or sports results there. In theory, it’s great, in practice, it depends on how many applications will support it.

Galaxy AI brings two interesting features. AI Select works as a smarter version of Circle to Search – you select an object on the screen and the system suggests relevant actions. Audio Eraser, on the other hand, removes unwanted sounds from videos – such as wind or passing cars.

DeX finally matured, the rest are cosmetic changes

Samsung DeX received a proper facelift thanks to Android 16 Desktop Mode. It looks more modern, runs smoother, and most importantly – it finally supports more than three windows simultaneously without lag.

Visually, the icons of system applications have changed – My Files, Quick Share, Internet, and others have received a more rounded design.

Camera control has a new gesture for quick settings – swiping down displays a panel with the most used functions. Finally, you don’t have to poke at tiny icons when taking photos.

When will it arrive in Europe? We guess next week

Samsung traditionally releases updates in Korea first. This is followed by the USA, then Western Europe, and finally the rest of the world. In an optimistic scenario, we could see One UI 8 here as early as next week.

What do you think of One UI 8 so far?
