Circle to Search gets a brilliant improvement. It completely changes the way we translate content on our phones

Google is starting to roll out a major improvement to the Circle to Search feature, which addresses one of the biggest shortcomings when translating on-screen content. The new update enables continuous translation during scrolling, significantly simplifying work with foreign language content on social networks or websites.

No more constant clicking on the translate button

Until now, Circle to Search worked quite limitedly for translation – after activating translation, a static screenshot was created and only the text visible at that moment was translated. As soon as the user scrolled the page or switched applications, they had to restart the entire process. This meant dozens of unnecessary clicks, especially when browsing longer content or conversations.

Coming soon, the translation experience is continuous. As you scroll down the page, or even switch apps, the text will continue to translate, so there’s no interruption.

The new feature, called “scroll and translate,” elegantly solves this problem. After a long press on the home button or navigation bar and clicking the translate icon, continuous translation mode is activated. This automatically translates all text on the screen while scrolling, and even when switching between different applications.

Practical use in everyday life

The improved feature will find use in a variety of common situations. When browsing Instagram or TikTok, you can follow posts from foreign creators without having to translate each post individually. During holiday planning, you can easily translate an entire restaurant menu or hotel reviews on Booking with a single gesture.

You’ll also appreciate the feature when shopping on foreign e-shops, where you can browse product descriptions and reviews in real-time. Students, in turn, will use continuous translation when reading academic articles or educational materials in a foreign language.

Technical details and availability

Google describes translations as one of the most used features of Circle to Search. The new update retains all existing capabilities, including text recognition from images, but adds the fluidity and continuity that was previously missing.

The rollout of the feature begins this week on selected Samsung Galaxy phones. Google has not yet specified which particular models will receive the update first, nor when it will expand to other Android devices. Given the current strategy, a gradual rollout to Pixely and other premium phones can be expected in the coming weeks.
