The popular gaming monitor Samsung Odyssey G5 with a 34-inch diagonal has for the first time dropped below the 6 thousand CZK price point. You can currently get it for 5,999 CZK, whereas at the beginning of 2021, when it was introduced, it cost around 14 thousand. It is indeed a somewhat older model, but users have praised it long-term, and its specifications can still impress today. Especially when such an attractive discount applies to it.

Immersive Curved Display for Gamers

The Samsung Odyssey G5 relies on a 34-inch VA panel with a 1000R curvature, which corresponds to the natural curvature of the human eye. This allows the monitor to draw you directly into the action, whether you’re playing racing simulators, shooters, or strategy games. You’ll appreciate the 3440 × 1440 pixel (Ultra WQHD) resolution if you’re still playing on a FullHD monitor. Moreover, it is slowly becoming a new standard even in lower price ranges.

The monitor features a 165 Hz refresh rate, which ensures a smooth, tear-free image, allowing you to enjoy titles like Counter-Strike 2, Fortnite, or other competitive shooters. In combination with AMD FreeSync Premium technology, it synchronizes with your graphics card and eliminates unpleasant artifacts. A 1 ms response time then minimizes motion blur.

Who is the monitor suitable for?

The Odyssey G5 is an interesting choice for gamers who want to enter the world of ultrawide monitors without having to invest too much money. The 3440 × 1440 px resolution represents a reasonable compromise – it’s not as demanding on the graphics card as 4K, but still offers a significantly sharper image than Full HD. You’ll appreciate the 21:9 aspect ratio not only when gaming but also when working with multiple windows or video editing.

What you should consider before buying

The monitor has a brightness of 250 cd/m², which is an average value for a gaming monitor. In a brightly lit room or near a window, the image may appear dim. While HDR10 is supported, it doesn’t provide the same effect at this brightness as with more expensive models. The VA panel also suffers from slower response times when transitioning dark shades, which can cause ghosting in some scenes.

Another limitation for some might be the absence of speakers – if you dislike headphones when watching videos as much as I do, you’ll need an external sound system. The monitor offers only basic ergonomics with tilt adjustment; height adjustment or pivot to portrait mode is missing. For connectivity, you have 1× HDMI and 1× DisplayPort available, which is sufficient for most users.

Price: 5,999 CZK
