Chinese technology giant DJI, which most of us primarily associate with drones and action cameras, has announced its entry into an entirely new segment. The company introduced its first line of ROMO robotic vacuum cleaners, which includes three models utilizing technologies originally developed for drones. In China, the new products are already on sale with prices ranging from 4,699 to 6,799 yuan, which translates to approximately 14,000 to 20,000 CZK.

Drone Technology Heads to Homes

DJI has implemented a navigation system from its flagship drones into its robotic vacuum cleaners, combining a dual fisheye camera and three wide-angle laser radars. According to the manufacturer, this system can detect obstacles with millimeter precision – including ultra-thin objects such as playing cards or 2mm charging cables.

Zhang Xiaonan, Senior Director of Corporate Strategy at DJI, stated regarding the new product: „ROMO is DJI’s first foray into home cleaning, a move beyond aerial intelligence. Users have increasingly higher demands for quality of life, and their expectations for robotic vacuum cleaners extend beyond basic cleaning.

All models feature a suction power of 25,000 Pa with a nine-blade metal fan and an airflow of 20 liters per second. A common feature is also a 164ml water tank directly in the robot’s body for continuous wet mopping of large areas.

Three Models with Different Features and Designs

ROMO P – Premium Variant with the Highest Price Tag

The top model, ROMO P, stands out primarily for its transparent design, both of the robot itself and the docking station. DJI refers to this as a “jellyfish-like” design, which serves not only an aesthetic but also a practical function – separating internal components from parts touched by the user.

The model features dual flexible robotic arms for cleaning corners and edges of rooms. The base offers, in addition to standard cleaning solution, an additional disinfectant tank and UV sterilization of the dust bag. The dual brush system is hair-tangle resistant, with zero tangles for 1 gram of hair.

ROMO A – Mid-Range Option

ROMO A retains the transparent design of the robot itself, while the docking station comes in a classic white finish. Technical specifications, including 25,000 Pa suction power, navigation system, and flexible arms, remain the same as the P model. Compared to the premium version, it lacks the additional disinfectant tank and UV sterilization in the base.

ROMO S – Basic Model

The most affordable ROMO S comes in an all-white design without transparent elements. Despite its lower price, it retains key technologies including the drone-based navigation system, 25,000 Pa suction power, and flexible arms. The model also shares the self-cleaning base with high-pressure cleaning with the higher variants.

Advanced Features Across the Entire Lineup

All three ROMO variants share several innovative features. The self-cleaning base uses four high-pressure water jets and a 16mm suction port for removing dirt, including hair and larger particles. A three-stage noise reduction system reduces noise during emptying by 80%, which will be especially appreciated by pet owners.

The robots support 55W fast charging, allowing them to reach full charge in just 2.5 hours. Control is provided by the DJI Home app with voice control support. An interesting feature is remote video calls via the robot’s camera with encrypted data transmission.

DJI has also implemented automatic carpet recognition with several cleaning strategies, a special mode for kitchens with intensive grease cleaning, and separate mop cleaning after bathroom or kitchen cleaning to prevent cross-contamination.

Availability and Prices Outside China

DJI has not yet officially confirmed specific dates or regions for international launch. The company only stated that global availability is expected later in 2025. With prices in China ranging from approximately 14,000 CZK (4,699 yuan) to 20,000 CZK (6,799 yuan) in conversion, it can be expected that European prices will be significantly higher due to customs duties and VAT.

Alternatives Available on the Czech Market

While we will have to wait for the potential arrival of DJI ROMO in the Czech Republic, several comparable models with similar features and parameters are already available on the market.

Dreame X50 Ultra Complete

Dreame X50 Ultra Complete is currently available for 27,499 CZK (originally 34,999 CZK). It offers laser and camera navigation, overcomes obstacles up to 4.2 cm high, and has a 395ml dustbin. Like ROMO, it features tangle-resistant brushes and automatic emptying with a 3.2l collection bin.

Roborock Saros 10R

Roborock Saros 10R for 37,990 CZK primarily targets pet owners. It combines laser and LiDAR navigation, offers a battery life of 180 minutes on a single charge, and a noise level of 65 dB. It includes a 2.7l dustbin in the docking station and an EPA E12 filter for allergy sufferers.

ECOVACS Deebot X8 OMNI

ECOVACS Deebot X8 OMNI costs 27,490 CZK and stands out with its long battery life of 270 minutes. It uses a trio of navigation systems (laser, camera, LiDAR) and has a 3l dustbin. The model can only overcome obstacles up to 2 cm high, but it features automatic cleaning of the mopping pads.

Samsung BESPOKE Jet Bot Combo AI

Samsung BESPOKE Jet Bot Combo AI for 35,290 CZK relies on artificial intelligence and antibacterial functions. With a battery life of 180 minutes and a 2.5l dustbin, it represents a premium alternative with support for the Samsung SmartThings ecosystem and a 1200 W power input for strong suction.

Are you looking forward to the potential arrival of DJI ROMO in the Czech Republic?
