World-renowned drone manufacturer DJI has surprisingly announced its entry into a completely new segment. Through its official Weibo social media account, the company confirmed that on August 6, it will unveil its very first robotic vacuum cleaner under the new brand ROMO. The poster is accompanied by the words “strong and powerful,” suggesting that the new product might fall into a higher price category.

Four Years of Development and Advanced Technologies

As reported by Gizmochina, according to sources familiar with the company’s internal plans, DJI has spent more than four years developing its first robotic vacuum cleaner. ROMO is expected to leverage the company’s key technologies in visual navigation, obstacle avoidance, and intelligent route planning, which DJI has perfected in its drones. The robot should therefore feature advanced sensors for 3D navigation and precise obstacle detection.

Unusual Transparent Design

Druhá varianta pak nabídne plně uzavřený bílý kryt s hladkými konturami a přední klapkou označenou logem ROMO. Samotný robotický vysavač má klasický kruhový tvar s nízkým profilem, což mu umožní snadno se dostat i pod nábytek.

The transparent version has already been shown live in a short video on the social network X by the well-known DJI leaker Igor Bogdanov. If I didn’t know the context, I would probably think that the British company Nothing, which operates in the field of smartphones and wearables, was about to launch its first robotic vacuum cleaner. Its products are characterized by an unconventional transparent design, with which it tries to differentiate itself from established stereotypes.

Product Portfolio Expansion

Entering the robotic vacuum cleaner segment represents a significant portfolio expansion for DJI, which until now primarily included drones, stabilizers, and action cameras. We are curious to see if it will subsequently expand its presence in the smart home field beyond this new area, should ROMO-branded vacuum cleaners succeed.

Would you buy a robotic vacuum cleaner from a drone manufacturer?
