Google has finally understood that sharing files between devices doesn’t have to be a struggle, and is rolling out a major redesign that changes how this feature works. The change comes several months after the first hints of a redesign appeared in April. At that time, it was still a test version, but now the new interface is starting to appear for regular users. Among the first lucky ones is Samsung, which has integrated the new feature into the One UI 8 beta version. Sending and receiving are no longer the same The biggest change is the division of the app into two separate modes – “Send” and “Receive”. Instead of a chaotic mix of everything, we finally get a logical separation of functions. You’ll find the mode switches at the bottom of the screen, and the app will automatically launch in receive mode when opened. The receiving screen looks clean and clear. Your device name is more prominent, you can set the visibility of your profile picture for contacts, and most importantly – you see all incoming sharing requests directly here. No more clicking, no more searching through menus. File selection that makes sense The sending mode brings something that should have been a given long ago – integrated file selection directly within the app. You can select multiple items of different types at once, and for media, you even see a preview of what you’re sending. No more accidentally sending the wrong photos or videos. Do you have Android? The original Quick Share settings, which previously opened as the default screen, have been replaced by a purposeful file receiving page. It’s a change that may not be revolutionary, but it certainly contributes to better usability. When will everyone get it? Google traditionally rolls out new features gradually, so if you don’t see the changes yet, don’t despair. Samsung has an advantage due to its integration into One UI 8 beta; other manufacturers will follow. Google has even more ambitious plans for the future. It is working on official support for iOS and macOS, which would make Quick Share a truly universal file sharing tool. Currently, alternatives like NearDrop must be used, but native support would be much more elegant. What do you think of the new Quick Share look?
