Do you want OLED for gaming? The GIGABYTE 280 Hz monitor is available on Alza for the first time under 10 thousand

The popular 27-inch OLED from GIGABYTE had long stayed above the ten thousand crown mark on Alza. Now it has broken it – with code ALZADNY20, you can buy it on Alza for 9,992 CZK at the time of writing. It boasts a 280 Hz refresh rate and very low response time.

Quick summary:
✅ Makes sense for gamers with more powerful graphics cards who are switching from IPS and want deep blacks and smooth images.
⚠️ Consider the power supply whine that some owners complain about, and the surface that easily picks up smudges.
💡 For 9,992 CZK you get a QHD OLED with 280 Hz, a KVM switch, and a three-year warranty.

Code ALZADNY20 sends the price below 10 thousand for the first time

Without the code, the monitor costs 12,490 CZK on Alza. The discount code ALZADNY20 takes 20% off the price, so you will pay 9,992 CZK and save one-fifth of the price. HlídačShopů has been tracking the monitor’s price on Alza for about a year and has not recorded it below ten thousand until now. The code is valid at the time of writing, but it is unclear how long it will last.

QD-OLED panel with 280 Hz and 0.03 ms response time

The monitor is built on a 27-inch QD-OLED panel with a resolution of 2560 × 1440 pixels. Each pixel illuminates itself, so a turned-off pixel emits no light, and light halos typical of LCDs do not appear around bright objects. The manufacturer states 10-bit color depth and 99% DCI-P3 color space coverage.

Key for gaming is the 280 Hz refresh rate and 0.03 ms response time. The monitor supports AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and is G-Sync compatible, so the image doesn’t tear even with fluctuating frame rates. Among HDR certifications, it has VESA DisplayHDR True Black 400; in Peak 1000 mode, the peak brightness reaches up to 1,000 cd/m² according to GIGABYTE, but only on a small area of the screen. For 280 Hz in QHD, both DisplayPort 1.4 and a pair of HDMI 2.1 are sufficient, one of which is suitable for a console, for example.

KVM switch will be appreciated by those who switch between PC and laptop

A practical feature is the built-in KVM switch. You connect your keyboard and mouse to the monitor, and with a single button, you switch between your desktop computer and laptop; the peripherals switch along with the display. Additionally, you can connect your laptop with a single USB-C cable, which transmits video and simultaneously charges with 18 W of power. However, this will not be enough for a more powerful laptop; it will merely slow down battery discharge.

The stand is metal and offers 130 mm height adjustment, tilt, and pivot, meaning rotation to portrait orientation. Those with a monitor arm can use the VESA 100 × 100 mm mounting. The power supply is built into the body, so there won’t be another box under the desk. To prevent panel burn-in, the manufacturer has implemented a set of AI OLED Care functions. Alza provides a 36-month warranty; GIGABYTE, according to its website, covers burn-in with a warranty in some regions – check with the seller how this applies in the Czech Republic.

Customers praise the image, complaints are directed at the power supply

On Alza, the monitor has a rating of 4.7 out of 5 from 31 customers, 90% of whom recommend it, and over 500 units have been sold there. Alza reports a return rate of 1.28%. Buyers who switched from IPS panels describe the improvement in image quality as significant – they particularly highlight HDR in games, contrast, and fluidity. They also positively evaluate KVM switching and the speakers, which are sufficient for videos.

However, some owners complain about power supply whine (so-called coil whine), which some reportedly hear even when the monitor is off in a quiet room. Others have not noticed it on their unit, so it seems to be a unit-to-unit lottery. Although Alza states an anti-reflective surface, several customers describe it as practically glossy and warn that OLEDs get dirty easily and are harder to clean. Furthermore, the monitor’s menu is not in Czech.

OLED is unnecessary for spreadsheets and slow-paced games

If you mainly play slower games, such as strategies or adventure games, or work with text and spreadsheets, you won’t utilize the 280 Hz potential. OLED is also not ideal for all-day static work with the same panels constantly on the screen – while protective functions reduce the risk of burn-in, they do not eliminate it entirely. Those considering other OLED monitors of the same brand can check out the GIGABYTE GO27Q24, which we also wrote about.

Those with more sensitive ears should account for the possibility of power supply whine. It helps if you buy the monitor with a return option and listen to it in a quiet room during the first few days.

Players with more powerful graphics cards will benefit the most

At 9,992 CZK with code ALZADNY20, this model is selling on Alza at its lowest price ever recorded in its history. It is especially suitable for gamers with more powerful graphics cards who want a more contrasting image, and for people who switch between a gaming PC and a work laptop at one desk.

Anyone who has been eyeing an OLED for gaming and movies for a long time and was waiting for a better price now has it.
