Download: Google launched a clever app for Windows, it will make searching easier with AI Home News Google officially releases its desktop application for Windows, available for download to users worldwide, including the Czech Republic The app allows you to quickly search the web, local files, installed programs, and Google Drive using the Alt + Space shortcut It includes an AI Mode for more complex queries and Google Lens for analyzing anything on the screen Sdílejte: Adam Kurfürst Published: 15. 4. 2026 02:30 Advertisement Last September, we informed you about the testing of a new desktop application from Google, which was intended to bring fast searching directly to the Windows desktop. At that time, it was only available in the USA through the Google Search Labs program, excluding Czech users. Now the situation has changed – Google has officially launched the application for users worldwide, and it is also available for download in our country. Google's Spotlight for Windows AI Mode and Google Lens directly on the desktop Free to download, but Czech is missing for now Google’s Spotlight for Windows The app’s concept resembles the Spotlight feature from macOS, which Apple users have known for many years. After pressing the keyboard shortcut Alt + Space, a floating search bar appears on the screen, into which you can immediately start typing. The application then searches four main sources simultaneously: websites via Google Search, files on your computer, installed applications, and documents stored on Google Drive. Regarding this shortcut, I already have an interesting observation: if you select text with the mouse and press Alt + Space, the selected section is automatically transferred to the search field. Practical. The advantage is that you don’t have to switch between windows or open a browser. You’re working on a document, need to quickly verify something, press the shortcut, and in a few seconds, you have the answer. Results are displayed in a floating window, which you can move anywhere on the screen and resize as needed. AI Mode and Google Lens directly on the desktop The application is not just a simple search field. It includes an AI Mode, which uses artificial intelligence to answer more complex queries. In this mode, you can ask follow-up questions and get answers supplemented with links to relevant websites. An interesting feature is the integration of Google Lens. It can analyze anything on your screen – just select a specific area, and the application will recognize text or an image. Google provides examples of use such as translating text from images, helping with math problems, or searching for information about objects in photos. A new feature compared to the original testing is the ability to share the entire screen or a specific window and then ask contextual questions. For example, you can share a window with a website and ask something related to its content. Free to download, but Czech is missing for now The application requires Windows 10 or newer, and after installation, you need to sign in with a Google account. In the settings, you can change the keyboard shortcut to invoke the application, enable or disable AI Mode, and switch between light and dark modes. Although the application is now globally available and can be downloaded in the Czech Republic, the interface is currently only in English. However, this is not too big of a problem, as the AI will provide answers to your queries in Czech. You can download the application at search.google/google-app/desktop.
