End of bots and fake profiles? Facebook introduces a new verification method. Home News Facebook has a new method to detect fake profiles You will now be able to get a badge that confirms to others that there is a real person behind your profile However, it also has two catches Sdílejte: Vašek Švec Published: 26. 7. 2026 08:30 Advertisement Unfortunately, Facebook is full of fake profiles and bots. Some such profiles are more or less harmless, others spread misinformation, and some even directly serve to commit criminal acts. The company Meta, which is behind Facebook, has thus come up with a method to easily and quickly determine, whether the person behind a given profile is truly who they claim to be. However, this method has its pitfalls. A new badge will tell everyone it’s really you The method involves a new “Facebook Verified” badge on the profile. You will get this if you go through a verification process consisting of taking a short selfie video. Facebook will then compare data from your face with your profile photos, and if they match, you will receive the mentioned badge. The entire process should not take more than a few minutes, and this badge will then be visible not only on your profile but also, for example, on Marketplace or in various groups. The pitfalls that this method brings are at least two. Firstly, it will depend on the widespread adoption of the verification. If it is rather sporadic, no one will be too surprised if a profile does not have the badge. And secondly. If you are among users who do not like to share their personal data with Facebook and do not have any of your photos on your profile or are not tagged in any, Facebook will naturally have nothing to compare the mentioned selfie video with. Not to mention that many users will not be keen on providing the selfie video itself, simply as a matter of principle. The Facebook Verified feature will be available to all users who have already reached the age of 18. The new verification will then be introduced gradually in waves, and it should already be available in unspecified markets at this time. Will you use the Facebook Verified feature?
