The race for the largest battery in the mid-range has a new favorite. Xiaomi has officially unveiled the European version of the Redmi Note 17 Pro Max – a phone whose biggest draw is a battery with a capacity of 10,000 mAh. Additionally, it supports 100W charging and boasts top-notch durability.

We announced the arrival of the new device a few days ago – Xiaomi confirmed the battery capacity in teasers even before the premiere. Now, the entire global series has been officially launched, led by the Pro Max model. Interestingly, you won’t find this particular phone for sale in China: it is exclusively aimed at international markets as a successor to last year’s Redmi Note 15 Pro Plus.

Redmi Note 17 Pro Max bets on a record-breaking battery

At the heart of the new device is a 10,000 mAh battery built on silicon-carbon technology with a 16% silicon content. According to Xiaomi, this is the largest battery the brand has ever put into a phone, yet it fits into a relatively compact body. The manufacturer promises up to three days of battery life on a single charge – however, this is a value from their own laboratory, so take it with a grain of salt.

And now for the main reason why a giant battery makes sense: 100W wired charging. Without it, fully charging such a volume would take forever; this way, according to the manufacturer, 20 minutes at the outlet is enough for a full day of operation (again, a laboratory figure, measured in power-saving mode). The phone also supports 27W reverse charging, so it can serve as a backup power bank for watches or headphones.

Durability like more expensive models

The manufacturer did not skimp on protection either. The body carries IP66, IP68, IP69, and IP69K certifications, so it is resistant to dust, submersion, and hot water jets. The display is covered by Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2, and according to SGS certification, the phone is designed to survive a fall from up to three meters onto granite. An underwater mode for shooting below the surface has also been added – but Xiaomi warns that durability is not limitless and it is not suitable for professional diving.

Display and performance: where savings were made

The front is dominated by a 6.83-inch AMOLED with 1.5K resolution and a 120 Hz refresh rate. According to the manufacturer, the peak brightness reaches up to 3,500 nits, so readability should not be lost even in bright sunlight.

The new device is powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 5, manufactured with a 4nm process. This is a classic mid-range chip, from which one certainly cannot expect miracles, and in a way, it might represent the price paid for that massive battery. It is more than sufficient for everyday applications, streaming, and less demanding gaming, but avid mobile gamers will look elsewhere. The software is handled by Xiaomi HyperOS 3 with a promise of six years of updates.

The camera setup is dominated by a 50Mpx main sensor with optical stabilization, complemented by an 8Mpx ultrawide lens; a 32Mpx camera handles selfies. There will be four colors to choose from, including the Cloud Blush variant, which changes shade in the sun thanks to its photochromatic layer.

Price and Availability

Xiaomi has not yet announced the price or release date for the Czech Republic. Alongside the top-tier Pro Max, the company also introduced its cheaper siblings: Redmi Note 17 Pro 5G, Redmi Note 17 5G, and the basic Redmi Note 17.
