If you were looking forward to the huge battery capacity of the new flagship Xiaomi 17 even in global markets, you will have to settle for a smaller capacity. The well-known leaker Kacper Skrzypek on social network X pointed out the difference between the Chinese and global versions – while in its home country of China the phone offers an impressive 7000mAh battery, the international variant will have to settle for a capacity of 6330 mAh.

Different specifications for the global market – essentially a tradition

In the post, Skrzypek briefly stated the difference between the two versions. However, readers following the developments of Chinese brands will not be surprised by this news – it is almost a tradition. Xiaomi (and not only them) commonly adjusts the specifications of its devices for different markets, with Chinese variants often receiving better equipment than their global counterparts.

We have seen a similar approach with a number of previous models – whether it was battery capacities, charging speeds, or available memory configurations. For me, a prime example is the Redmi Note 14 Pro+ 5G, which received a telephoto lens and a 6,200mAh battery in China, but arrived here with a macro sensor and a 5,110mAh battery capacity.

Compact Flagship with Impressive Features

Despite the smaller battery, the Xiaomi 17 is a superbly equipped smartphone. Its main advantages include a 6.3″ LTPO OLED display with 1.5K resolution, a 120 Hz refresh rate, and brightness up to 3500 nits. It also impresses with extremely thin bezels, only 1.18 mm wide, and Dragon Crystal Glass protection.

Inside the phone, we find the latest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, up to 16 GB of RAM, and UFS 4.1 storage with a capacity of up to 1 TB. Cooling is handled by an improved “ring cold pump” system, which is said to be three times more efficient than conventional vapor chambers. The phone also offers IP68 certification for dust and water resistance.

The camera setup includes a trio of 50Mpx sensors – a main one with the Light Fusion 950 chip, an ultrawide, and a telephoto lens with 2.6x optical zoom. The front camera also has a resolution of 50 megapixels. Despite the smaller battery in the global version, support for 100W wired and 50W wireless charging remains, as does 22.5W reverse charging.

Launch Date and Estimated Price

In China, the Xiaomi 17 starts at a price of 4499 yuan (approximately 13,100 CZK) for the basic 12/256 GB configuration. The global version is expected to arrive in the first quarter of next year, likely in February or March. The European price will be significantly higher due to taxes and other fees – we can expect an amount around 22–23 thousand CZK for the basic variant.

In the Chinese market, the phone is available in four color variants – pink, light blue, black, and white. Which of these colors will reach international markets is not yet known.

Although the global version will receive a smaller battery, it will still be a traditionally interesting smartphone that could appeal especially to users looking for a compact flagship with powerful hardware.
