Chinese technology giant Xiaomi has expanded its smart home portfolio with an unconventional product – the intelligent heated blanket Mijia Smart Electric Blanket. The single-person version, measuring 1.8 × 0.8 meters, is heading to the Chinese market via the Xiaomi Youpin platform, where interested parties can pre-order it through crowdfunding for 179 yuan (approximately 530 CZK). After the campaign ends, the price will increase to the standard 239 yuan (roughly 700 CZK converted).

Smart blanket with a mobile app

The Mijia Smart Electric Blanket primarily differs from conventional heated blankets by its ability to connect to a smartphone. Through the Mijia app, you can control the blanket remotely, set heating schedules, or automatically regulate the temperature during the night. Xiaomi integrated 80W heating coils in such a way that they are practically imperceptible under the polyester surface.

The features also include support for the Xiao AI voice assistant, which allows controlling the blanket with simple commands in Chinese. The blanket has a special sleep mode that automatically adjusts the temperature during the night according to predefined profiles.

Dust mite removal and dehumidification functions

In addition to basic heating, the Mijia Smart Electric Blanket also offers a dust mite removal mode, which uses high temperature to eliminate unwanted microorganisms in bedding. It also includes a dehumidification function, which helps keep bedding dry and fresh. Xiaomi implemented an eight-stage safety system into the product, which includes protection against overheating, short circuit, overload, and overcurrent.

The blanket can also be controlled using the included physical controller for users who prefer classic control over a mobile app. The device has obtained Chinese 3C safety certification and, according to the manufacturer, produces minimal electromagnetic radiation.

Availability only in China for now

Xiaomi has not yet confirmed whether it plans to launch the product on global markets, including Europe, but personally, I wouldn’t bet too much on it. While we cannot directly rule it out given the growing smart home portfolio in countries outside China, the manufacturer generally does not tend to export products of this type.

With the arrival of colder months, the intelligent heated blanket presents an interesting alternative to traditional solutions. The ability to preheat the bed before sleep directly from your phone or automatic shutdown at a set time are features that may appeal to smart home enthusiasts.
