Yesterday we published a review of the Google Pixel 10a, and the main conclusion? It’s practically the same phone as last year’s Pixel 9a – same chip, same camera, same battery. However, the 10a costs 13,290 CZK, while you can currently buy the Pixel 9a on Alza for 9,490 CZK. That’s a difference of almost four thousand for a phone that is internally identical. You can find the current price and availability in the product detail on Alza.

Quick summary:
Makes sense if you want clean Android with a decent camera, 7 years of support, and a price under 10 thousand.
⚠️ Consider if display glass durability is very important to you (9a has older Gorilla Glass 3) or if you need faster charging – 10a offers 30W instead of 23W.
💡 For 9,490 CZK you get a phone with the same chip and camera as the new model for 13,290 CZK – and you can use the saved money for a case and charger.

Pixel 9a vs. 10a: why the older model makes more sense

Both generations share the Tensor G4 processor, a 48Mpx main camera (f/1.7, OIS) + 13Mpx ultrawide, 8 GB RAM, and a 5,100 mAh battery. In benchmarks, they are practically identical. What the new 10a adds: flat back without a protruding camera, better cover glass (Gorilla Glass 7i instead of GG3), faster charging (30W vs. 23W), higher peak display brightness, and satellite SOS. These are nice upgrades, but none of them fundamentally change the user experience. For a difference of 3,800 CZK, it’s more cosmetic.

The only thing that’s more disappointing with the 9a is the older Gorilla Glass 3 – several users on Alza mention that the display scratches easily. However, a screen protector for a few hundred crowns will solve that. The 9a has guaranteed software support until 2032, which is 7 years – only one year less than the 10a.

What users say

Pixel 9a has a rating of 4.8 out of 5 on Alza with a return rate of only 0.08% – an exceptionally low value. Users most often praise the camera (including night mode), battery life, clean Android without bloatware, and overall system responsiveness. Enthusiasm is repeatedly expressed by people who switched from iPhone or Samsung and don’t want to go back.

Among the weaknesses: the mentioned scratches on the display without a screen protector, plastic back, slower charging compared to competitors, and the absence of a jack connector. A few users reported Bluetooth issues after an update, but most reviews are overwhelmingly positive.

Verdict

The Google Pixel 9a for 9,490 CZK is currently one of the best phones in the mid-range – and paradoxically, an even better buy than the recently introduced Pixel 10a. Same chip, same camera, same battery, 7 years of updates, and a price almost 4 thousand lower. If you don’t need better display glass and faster charging, the 9a is the more rational choice. And if you’re also tempted by the competition, check out our review of the Pixel 10a, where we also compare it with the Nothing Phone 4a Pro, iPhone 17e, and others. You can find more discounted phones in the current Alza Days.

Would you buy the older Pixel for a better price, or would you go for the new model?
