A memory card slot is increasingly hard to find in phones today, but it’s still common equipment in drones, action cameras, tablets, or gaming handhelds. And that’s exactly where a fast card comes in handy, one that won’t stutter in the middle of a 4K recording. You can now buy the Samsung T7 microSDXC with 512 GB capacity for 2,029 CZK instead of the original 2,899 CZK with code ALZADNY30; the remaining three sizes are also a fifth cheaper on Alza.

The 512GB version offers the best price-to-capacity ratio

Samsung sells the card in four capacities, and all are currently on sale at Alza. With discount codes, prices are as follows.

• 128 GB for 799 CZK instead of 999 CZK with code ALZADNY20 (discount of 200 CZK)
• 256 GB for 1,199 CZK instead of 1,499 CZK with code ALZADNY20 (discount of 300 CZK)
• 512 GB for 2,029 CZK instead of 2,899 CZK with code ALZADNY30 (discount of 870 CZK)
• 1 TB for 4,559 CZK instead of 5,699 CZK with code ALZADNY20 (discount of 1,140 CZK)

Three capacities have a 20% discount, but the 512GB version received its own code ALZADNY30 and comes out to less than 4 CZK per gigabyte. For the 256GB card, you’ll pay roughly 4.7 CZK per gigabyte, for the terabyte card approximately 4.6 CZK, and the smallest 128GB version climbs over 6 CZK. Those who need a terabyte of space and don’t mind splitting data between two cards can get two 512GB versions for 4,058 CZK, which is 501 CZK cheaper than one 1TB card.

Sufficient for 4K video, but the promised 170 MB/s requires the right reader

The card meets U3, V30, and A2 classes, which are the most important practical data on the entire package. The V30 class guarantees a write speed of at least 30 MB/s, which can handle 4K recording from a phone, drone, or action camera, and thanks to A2, you can launch applications and games directly from the card without unnecessary waiting. According to Samsung, the 128GB version can hold approximately 5.9 hours of 4K video, the 512GB version just under 24 hours, and the terabyte version approximately 47 hours.

However, it’s good to treat the number on the package with caution. Samsung states that the read speed of up to 170 MB/s was measured with the card inserted into their own readers, so expect a lower value in a regular phone or a cheap UHS-I reader. The manufacturer does not state the maximum write speed in the description on Alza, only guaranteeing the mentioned minimum set by the V30 class.

Survives saltwater, airport X-rays, and a five-meter drop

You also get an SD adapter with the card, and you can manage it in the Samsung Magician app for Windows, macOS, and Android, where you can verify the card’s authenticity, check its status, and update the firmware. Alza states a 24-month warranty for the cards, and the manufacturer also declares a three-year limited warranty. By the way, Samsung borrowed the T7 name from its popular external SSD, about whose discount we wrote just a few days ago, so don’t confuse them when searching.

Samsung states six-fold durability for the card. It reportedly withstands 72 hours in saltwater at a depth of 1 meter, operation at temperatures from −25 to 85 °C, airport X-rays, magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss, drops from five meters, and up to 10,000 insertions and removals. These are manufacturer’s laboratory tests that we cannot independently verify, and Samsung itself warns that they apply only to the card, not the adapter.

Customers most often opt for the 256GB version

On Alza, the card has a rating of 4.5 out of 5 from 16 customers, and 88% of them recommend it. The rating is shared across all capacities: thirteen people gave full stars, while two gave only one, so I wouldn’t attach too much weight to it yet. Sales are more telling. Most people bought the 256GB version (over 2,000 units), followed by 128GB (over 1,000) and 512GB (over 500); over fifty terabyte cards have been sold so far. Alza describes the complaint rate for more popular capacities as low, with the 256GB version at 0.05%.

You can’t put it in a Switch 2 or flagship Galaxy phones

Before ordering the card, verify that you have a place to insert it. Flagship Galaxy S phones and Samsung foldables do not have a microSD slot, and it’s disappearing from more expensive phones of other brands too. Also, be careful with the Nintendo Switch 2 console, which requires newer microSD Express cards for games, so the T7 with its UHS-I interface won’t work for games in it. For older devices, it’s worth checking the manual to see if they can handle a 1 TB capacity.

Which capacity to choose?

If you’re hesitating, the 512GB version for 2,029 CZK is the most sensible purchase of the entire promotion: it costs the least per gigabyte and can hold almost a day of 4K video. The 256GB card for 1,199 CZK makes sense for a phone or tablet where you primarily store photos and music, and the 128GB version for 799 CZK will suffice for a car camera or a cheaper action camera. I would only consider the terabyte card for 4,559 CZK if you truly need to have everything on a single card, for example, during long drone footage sessions when you have no place to continuously offload data.
