Few would expect this: Galaxy S27 Ultra is set to surpass iPhone in this aspect!

  • Galaxy S27 Ultra is rumored to get "Polar ID" 3D facial recognition better than Face ID
  • The technology is supposed to work even with masks, glasses, and in the dark thanks to polarized light
  • The leak comes from the same unreliable source as the fake Exynos 2600 benchmark

The Galaxy S26 doesn’t even exist yet, but leakers are already diligently working to tell us how amazing the Galaxy S27 Ultra will be. The latest report claims that the phone will get a revolutionary facial recognition system called “Polar ID”, which is supposed to be more secure than Apple Face ID and work even with a face mask. But wait a minute – we heard the same thing about the Galaxy S25 Ultra. And then again about the S26 Ultra. And now again about the S27 Ultra. Do you see the pattern?

Polar ID: polarized light instead of IR sensors

According to the leak, the Galaxy S27 Ultra should use a “polarized authentication system” instead of the classic infrared sensors that most phones use today, including the entire Galaxy S25 series. The technology is supposed to work as follows: instead of light reflections from the face, the phone will scan the polarization signature of your skin using near-infrared light.

What does this mean in practice? Allegedly, the system should work:

  • In any lighting condition – dark, sun, anything
  • Even with a mask or glasses on your face
  • It cannot be fooled by a photo or a 3D mask of your face
  • Response within 180 ms – faster than current systems

The technology is supposed to be enabled by the ISOCELL Vizion sensor in combination with something the leaker calls “BIO-Fusion Core” – a secure enclave for processing biometric data. It sounds impressive. But…

Same unreliable source as last time

The information comes from leaker @SPYGO19726, who is currently under fire. Why? Because they recently shared fake Geekbench results for Exynos 2600 with unrealistic scores that don’t exist on the official Geekbench website. And now the same source claims to have found a mention of “Polar ID v1.0” in the test firmware for the S27 Ultra.

That alone should be reason for skepticism. But it’s not the only problem.

We’ve heard this before. Many times.

Here’s the biggest problem: similar “revolutionary” facial recognition upgrades have been leaked for Samsung phones for years. And so far, none have materialized.

  • Galaxy S25 Ultra – was supposed to get an upgrade, didn’t
  • Galaxy S26 Ultra – is supposed to get an upgrade, probably won’t
  • Galaxy S27 Ultra – now supposedly definitely getting an upgrade…

The pattern is clear: every year a leak appears about how the next Ultra model will get the best Face ID competitor on the market. Every year nothing happens. And then the same leak is recycled for the next generation.

3D facial scanning technology has existed for years – Apple has had it in the iPhone since 2017. Samsung has the technology, it has ISOCELL sensors, it has the know-how. But it simply doesn’t put it into its top models. Why?

Perhaps it’s a matter of cost – 3D scanning systems are not cheap, and Samsung is trying to maintain margins. Perhaps it’s a technical problem with integration into a notch-less display design. Perhaps Samsung simply doesn’t consider Face ID a priority because the in-display fingerprint reader works well enough.

The reality is that until we see an official announcement from Samsung, all these leaks are just wishful thinking.

Do you think Samsung will finally deliver a Face ID competitor?
