Imagine controlling your refrigerator as intuitively as your Samsung phone. This is precisely the goal the Korean giant has set with the expansion of the One UI platform to home appliances. After years where each device had its own interface, unification finally arrives, and it makes sense.

While Huawei has been pushing its HarmonyOS into everything from watches to cars in China for some time, Samsung has taken the path of gradual expansion. One UI started on phones, expanded to tablets, watches, TVs, and is now heading to kitchens and bathrooms.

Seven years of updates for a washing machine? Yes, really

It might sound absurd, but Samsung promises 7 years of software updates for its smart appliances. This is the same level of support that flagship Galaxy S phones receive. It applies to all Wi-Fi appliances launched from 2024 – refrigerators, washing machines, dryers, air conditioners, and induction cooktops.

The first wave of updates will arrive as early as September 2025 and will bring several interesting new features.

Now Brief: When the fridge knows when the washing machine is done

The most visible new feature will be Now Brief – a function that Samsung introduced with the Galaxy S series. On the smart refrigerator’s display, you’ll see not only the weather and family calendar, but also notifications, for example, that the washing machine will finish in 10 minutes. The system will offer personalized recipes based on what’s in your fridge, or remind you that it’s time to change the air conditioner filter.

Refrigerators with a Family Hub display or a 9-inch screen will receive an enhanced AI Vision Inside feature. This will now recognize not only fresh foods but also packaged goods – the system will know if you have a specific yogurt or jam in the fridge. Additionally, users can save up to 50 custom items with names.

Knox Security protects even the washing machine from hackers

You might wonder why anyone would want to hack a washing machine. However, in a world where everything is connected, security is crucial. Samsung is therefore extending its Knox Matrix security system to appliances. It uses private blockchain technology called Trust Chain – devices monitor each other’s security status.

Furthermore, appliances with a display will receive a full-fledged security dashboard, where you can check the security status of all connected devices in real-time. They also support encrypted login credential synchronization and Passkey authentication.

Bixby recognizes your voice, TV Plus on the fridge

The voice assistant Bixby will gain Voice ID support – it will recognize individual household members by voice and tailor responses to them. It can be activated simply by double-tapping the display.

An interesting feature is the expansion of Samsung TV Plus to Family Hub refrigerators. In addition to the originally supported countries, Canada, Brazil, and India will be added. Washing machines with a 7-inch display will also receive support for eight Indian languages, including Bengali and Punjabi. Unfortunately, this service is not available in the Czech Republic at all.

A true ecosystem, or just a marketing ploy?

Samsung is finally doing what it should have done a long time ago – unifying the user experience across all products. While until now each appliance had its own control logic, now everything will be unified under the familiar One UI interface.

The question remains how many people will actually use the advanced features of a smart refrigerator or washing machine. The reality is that most users set a program and forget about it. On the other hand, if you’re already paying a premium price for smart appliances, it’s good to get truly smart features and long-term support.

The first updates will start rolling out in September 2025 to 2024 models. Samsung promises that newer 2025 appliances will already have One UI pre-installed from the factory. We’ll see if Samsung keeps its promise of long-term support this time – it has succeeded with phones, but for appliances, it will be a premiere.
