From phones to water flossers. Xiaomi Water Flosser 2 continues the tradition of good price/performance ratio (review)

In our editorial office, I usually deal with smartphones, tablets, or wearable electronics, but sometimes something less common lands in my hands. This time, I got the opportunity to try out the Xiaomi Water Flosser 2 – a water flosser that promises to be my helper in daily hygiene. Can the Chinese manufacturer succeed even in a category dominated by brands specializing in dental care?

Surprisingly high-quality craftsmanship and design

The Xiaomi water flosser immediately caught my eye with its elegant, minimalist design that fits into any bathroom. The device feels surprisingly premium and certainly doesn’t look like a cheap piece of plastic, which is a pleasant surprise for a product in this price category. In addition to the flosser itself, the package also included two nozzles – standard and orthodontic, a charging cable, and a brief user manual.

Ergonomics are at a very good level; the device fit well in my hand and did not feel uncomfortable even after prolonged use. The 200 ml water tank is easy to fill and, in my experience, is sufficient for one complete cleaning of teeth and interdental spaces without needing a refill. I must also appreciate the IPX7 rating, which ensures water resistance, as the body of the flosser itself will logically come into contact with water from time to time.

What is a water flosser good for?

A water flosser is a great tool for more thorough tooth and gum care. Using a thin stream of water, it removes food debris and plaque from areas where a regular toothbrush cannot reach – mainly from interdental spaces and along the gumline.

It is suitable for anyone who wants truly clean mouths, but it is especially appreciated by people with braces, implants, or sensitive gums. The water stream also massages the gums and can help prevent inflammation or bleeding.

A water flosser does not replace classic toothbrushing but complements it perfectly. It is ideal to use it in the evening after brushing your teeth – the feeling of cleanliness is priceless.

Three modes for everyone

The Water Flosser 2 offers three different cleaning modes with varying water jet intensity. The lowest “Sensitive” mode is especially appreciated if you have sensitive gums, the medium mode is ideal for regular daily cleaning, while the highest power can handle even the most stubborn food debris.

From numerous discussions on Reddit and my own testing, it is clear that the jet intensity is truly strong even at the lowest level. For some users, this may be uncomfortable at first, but most adapt after a few days of use. Even I felt in the first few days that it could be gentler, but after a week of use, I got used to it and now perceive it as an advantage.

Battery life that surprises

One of the main attractions of this water flosser is undoubtedly its battery life. Xiaomi promises up to 90 hours of operation on a single charge, which in practice means approximately three months of regular use. I did not have the opportunity to fully verify this value, but after three weeks of regular use (twice a day), I still hadn’t needed to reach for the charger.

A full charge takes approximately 4 hours, which is not the fastest, but given the battery life, it doesn’t pose any problem. I was a bit disappointed that the manufacturer didn’t use a standard USB-C connector but a special proprietary solution. So, if you forget your charger while traveling, you’ll have to find an original cable.

Practical experience: my impressions and user opinions

After several weeks of testing, I must say that the Xiaomi Water Flosser 2 performs surprisingly well. It effectively removes food debris from interdental spaces and, according to several users, is particularly useful for people with braces. The orthodontic nozzle perfectly reaches even the most difficult-to-access areas.

Interestingly, many users on Reddit mention that before Xiaomi, they tried cheaper alternatives that broke down after a few months of use. I also had an experience with an unbranded water flosser in the past that lasted just over half a year. Build quality and reliability are among the main advantages of this model.

Regarding practical use, I subjectively feel that the device has significantly improved my oral hygiene. Several other users even report that it helped them reduce gum bleeding and generally improved the condition of their teeth. However, I recommend using a water flosser as a supplement to regular toothbrushing and interdental brushes, not as a replacement for them.

Is the Xiaomi Water Flosser 2 the right choice?

At a price of 899 CZK, I believe the Xiaomi Water Flosser 2 is one of the best choices on the market. It offers features you would expect from much more expensive models, while also not disappointing in terms of build quality. Its biggest competitors are Waterpik brand models, which are, however, several times more expensive.

If you have been using classic dental floss or interdental brushes so far and would like to try a water flosser, this model is an ideal choice to start with. Although cheaper alternatives exist, my experience and the opinions of other users suggest that investing in a quality product pays off – many people had to replace cheaper alternatives several times, which ultimately cost them more.
