How does HD technology work?

The new system is based on advanced AI-powered noise cancellation. The Galaxy Buds4 series headphones have several microphones that pick up sound from different directions, and they also include Voice Pick Up Unit (VPU) technology, capable of recognizing and enhancing users’ voices. Advanced systems can then analyze the sound in real-time and separate the conversation from background noise, such as street noise, wind, and even other people’s conversations nearby.

In traditional Bluetooth calls, voice frequencies operate within a limited wavelength, making the call sound compressed and often unnatural. However, this is not the case for HD Voice technology, as the Bluetooth frequency range is doubled to 16 kHz (the so-called super wide band). The system simultaneously uses machine learning models to suppress noise and enhance the human voice.

The wider frequency range primarily emphasizes certain phonemes, such as sibilants, which often get lost during standard Bluetooth transmission. This makes the call clearer and sound more natural.

Thanks to the combination of intelligent noise cancellation and a wider frequency range, the caller feels as if the other party is practically standing next to them.

How to activate the HD Voice system: Turn on your Galaxy Buds headphones and on your Galaxy phone, select Settings menu à Galaxy Buds settings à Sound quality and effects à Advanced quality option à Super wideband call.
