Gemini AI is coming to Google TV! It will summarize previous series and help with entertainment selection

Google is finally bringing its Gemini AI assistant to smart TVs. After months of speculation and gradual deployment to phones and tablets, artificial intelligence is now coming to the largest screen in the home.

What can Gemini actually do on TV?

The basic principle remains the same as with Google Assistant – just say “Hey Google” or press the microphone on the remote. The difference is that Gemini handles more natural conversations and understands even more complex queries. Instead of simple commands like “play Netflix,” you can say something like “find me something for tonight, I like detective stories, but my wife prefers comedies.”

In practice, it looks interesting. Gemini can summarize a previous season of a series when you’re about to start a new one. It can find a show based on a vague description – for example, “that new hospital show everyone’s talking about.” And it will also add reviews or ratings to help you decide.

Google also emphasizes its educational potential. You can ask how to learn to play the guitar, and Gemini will immediately offer relevant YouTube videos. Or it can help with children’s homework – explaining why volcanoes erupt and showing instructions on how to make a volcano model.

What’s the catch?

The first problem is extremely limited availability. Currently, Gemini only works on a single model – the TCL QM9K. This is a premium QLED TV that isn’t even officially available in the Czech Republic. While Google promises expansion to other models “later in the year,” the list mainly includes American brands and models.

For the Czech market, it’s significant that Gemini will also come to the Google TV Streamer, which you can buy here. The question remains when and in what languages the service will work.
