Gemini in Android Auto to get a great new feature! A new interface is also expected

Gemini on the car display could use previous conversations when responding. A leak from an Android Auto app teardown, published by Android Authority, reveals further details about the upcoming personalization. In addition, Google is also preparing a more prominent assistant animation. This already has a concrete form: the editorial team managed to activate the in-progress interface.

Responses will build on previous conversations

The newly found texts in the app describe a Personalization option. According to Android Authority’s findings, it is intended to function similarly to on a phone: Gemini will take into account previous conversations and information from connected apps when responding. If personalization is enabled, it can also display personal results directly on the infotainment screen.

The continuity is more interesting in this change than the new look. It could reduce repeated explanations of context when transitioning from a phone to the in-car assistant. However, the real benefit will depend on how well Gemini selects relevant information.

Full-width animation instead of subtle glow

The current Gemini indicates listening with a subtle glow at the bottom or side edge of the display, depending on the bar’s placement. Once you start speaking, both the Gemini Live button and the close button disappear. The in-progress interface, which Android Authority made accessible, on the other hand, stretches across the entire width of the screen and places both buttons on opposite sides.

Dots now appear around the interface. This is the Neural Expressive visual style that Google already uses in the Gemini overlay panel and in the Circle to Search feature. The appearance of the in-car assistant would thus resemble what we know from phones.

For a regular trial, we’ll have to wait. Neither the animation nor the personalization are available to users, and it is not known when Google will release them, or whether both changes will make it into the final version.
