Alza offers the TP-Link Kasa KE100 starter kit with discount code ALZADNY25 for 1,192 CZK, which is a discount of 397 crowns from the original 1,589 CZK. The package includes a smart thermostatic radiator valve plus the Kasa Smart Hub KH100, which ensures communication with the app on your phone. This is a starter package for a smart home focused on saving on heating – you can set time schedules, control heating remotely, or even preheat a room before you get home.

The thermostatic head is mounted in place of a classic radiator valve (standard thread M30 × 1.5 mm) and the package includes three adapters (RA, RAV, RAVL) for better compatibility with various valve types. Power is provided by two AA batteries, which, according to the manufacturer, last for the entire heating season. The hub connects to 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi and communicates with radiators via 868 MHz frequency (better range than Wi-Fi).

Time Schedules and Preheating Before Arrival

The main advantage of smart thermostatic heads is the ability to set heating schedules according to daily habits. In the Kasa Smart app, you can create scenarios – for example, turn off heating on weekdays from 8:00 to 16:00, then turn it on to 22 °C before coming home. On weekends, a different mode when you are home all day. This saves energy because you don’t have to heat when no one is home.

The remote control from anywhere feature is practical – if you’re returning from vacation and want a warm home, you can turn on the heating on your phone while still on the train. Or, if you forgot to turn it down before leaving, you can do it on the way. The app also supports voice control via Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa, or Siri.

The Matter certification is interesting – it means the head works with Apple Home, Google Home, Samsung SmartThings, or any other platform supporting the Matter standard. In practice, this gives greater freedom when choosing a smart home ecosystem, as you won’t be confined to just TP-Link products.

The Problem of Two Apps from One Manufacturer

The biggest criticism in user reviews is directed at the necessity of using two applicationsTapo and Kasa. The KH100 hub works in the Tapo app, but the KE100 thermostatic head is controlled only via the Kasa app. This means that if you have other TP-Link products (cameras, plugs, sensors) in the Tapo app, you will have to switch to the second app to control heating.

Users write in reviews sentences like “I absolutely don’t understand which expert would put a hub and a head in a kit, each functional in a different app” or “Cannot be used in the Tapo app”. One customer even returned the product just because of this issue. TP-Link is gradually merging the apps, but it’s still not an ideal solution.

On the positive side, both applications are fully in Czech and, according to most users, are clear and intuitive. You can handle the installation yourself following the guide in the app.

One Hub, Up to 32 Heads

The KH100 hub can manage up to 32 thermostatic heads at once, which is sufficient even for a larger family house. Communication takes place via the ZigBee protocol at 868 MHz, which has better range and less interference than classic Wi-Fi. In practice, this means that radiator heads in the basement or upstairs should communicate reliably.

For each head, you can purchase an external temperature sensor, which you place anywhere in the room, and the head then regulates the temperature according to it instead of its own sensor (which is directly at the radiator and can be affected by heat from the heating). Several users in reviews recommend an external sensor for more precise regulation.

A smart feature is the window sensor connection – when you open a window, the heating automatically turns off and frost protection is activated. This saves energy because you are not heating a space with an open window.

Compatibility with Valves and Boilers

The head is designed for a standard M30 × 1.5 mm thread, which most newer radiator valves use. The package includes three adapters (RA, RAV, RAVL), but beware – not all valve types are supported. One user writes that it doesn’t work on older valves and the head cannot fully close the valve. Another mentions a missing adapter for Danfoss RTD-N.

Before purchasing, check what type of valve you have on your radiators. If the valves are older than 15 years, there might be compatibility issues.

Important note: The head does not control the boiler. It only regulates the water flow in individual radiators but cannot turn the entire heating system on or off. Several users in reviews criticize that TP-Link does not have a product that would control the boiler, and the manufacturer’s support reportedly doesn’t even understand why anyone would want that. One customer solved this with a smart switch, but that works in the Tapo app instead of Kasa, which only added another complication.

If you need to control the entire system, including the boiler, you will have to look for a different solution.

Who Is It Worth It For?

User rating is 4.6/5 stars from 63 reviews on Alza. People praise the design, functionality, and the Czech application. Criticism mainly targets the two applications, valve compatibility, and the inability to control the boiler. According to statistics, the product has a low complaint rate of 0.3% and 89% of customers recommend it, which is a solid result.
