When TCL launched its flagship 98C7K on the Czech market last April, its price of 124,990 CZK placed it among truly premium products. A year later, the situation has dramatically changed – the TV with a diagonal of almost 2.5 meters can now be purchased on Alza for 59,490 CZK, which is less than half of the original amount. For those interested in a large-scale home cinema, this is an interesting opportunity.

QD-Mini LED with precise backlighting

The TCL 98C7K uses QD-Mini LED technology, which combines the advantages of QLED and local dimming. The TV features 2048 independent dimming zones, allowing for precise control of backlighting in different parts of the image. In practice, this means deeper blacks in dark scenes while maintaining high brightness in bright areas.

Peak brightness reaches 3000 nits, a parameter especially appreciated by owners of living rooms with large windows. The CrystGlow HVA panel also features an anti-reflective coating that minimizes reflections from ambient light. The TV supports all common HDR formats, including HDR10+, Dolby Vision, and Dolby Vision IQ.

For gamers and movie enthusiasts

Native 4K resolution is complemented by a refresh rate of 100/120 Hz, which increases to 144 Hz in gaming mode. Four HDMI 2.1 ports with VRR and ALLM support are available for connecting game consoles or PCs. The Game Master feature automatically optimizes picture settings for gaming, and the game bar provides quick access to important parameters.

Sound is handled by speakers with a total output of 60 W, tuned by Bang & Olufsen. It includes a built-in subwoofer and support for surround sound Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. For a cinematic experience without an external soundbar, this is an above-standard feature set.

Google TV and smart features

The TV runs on the Google TV platform, providing access to apps like Netflix, Disney+, HBO Max, and the Czech service Oneplay. Voice control is provided by Google Assistant, and Chromecast and Apple AirPlay 2 are used for sharing content from mobile devices. HbbTV 2.0.3 support for interactive digital broadcasting features is also included.

Who is the TV suitable for?

The TCL 98C7K is designed for those who want a truly large screen without the need for a projector. The 249 cm diagonal requires a sufficiently spacious room – the ideal viewing distance is around 3–4 meters. The TV will be appreciated by movie enthusiasts who crave a cinema-like experience, as well as gamers with powerful consoles or PCs.

Conversely, for smaller living rooms or casual news viewing, it’s an unnecessarily large and expensive piece. Higher installation costs must also be considered – the TV weighs over 50 kg, and for wall mounting, you’ll need a robust bracket with VESA 600×500 mm spacing.
