Google announced the new feature directly on its blog, and it concerns anyone who creates events with guests in Calendar. A new field called “Get email when guests respond” will appear right above the event description box and is checked by default – so until you do anything, you will continue to receive attendance confirmations as before.

Unchecking the box will solve the flood of emails

If you want to stop receiving responses, you must manually uncheck the box – there is no bulk disable option across the entire calendar; you handle it event by event. Once you disable it, you will stop receiving attendance confirmations as well as automatic “out of office” or vacation auto-replies.

However, one important difference is good to keep in mind. For guests who use Google Calendar, you will see their status directly in the event (attending / not attending) – you just won’t receive an email about it. However, for people from other calendars, such as Outlook, their response will not appear in the event at all after disabling, so you will completely lose track of this group.

Who will get the feature?

The new feature will bring the greatest relief to organizers of large meetings who don’t need to deal with every single response – instead of dozens of emails, a glance at the event is enough. For recurring events, the setting has one limitation: it can only be applied to the entire series, not to a single instance. Furthermore, corporate administrators do not have a central switch; each organizer decides for themselves.

The rollout began on August 28 for so-called Rapid Release domains, where the feature may appear gradually for up to 15 days. Scheduled Release domains will receive it from September 10, and there it is usually fully deployed within one to three days. The setting is aimed at all Google Workspace customers, Workspace Individual subscribers, and regular personal Google accounts – so it will eventually reach your home too.
