The mobile browser Google Chrome for Android is finally completing the rollout of the Material 3 Expressive redesign, which began distribution in late August. The visual transformation comes several weeks after most Google applications received a similar update.

Circular Buttons and Rounded Squares

You’ll notice the most significant change after opening the three-dot menu in the top right corner. Buttons for forward, bookmarks, downloads, site info, and refresh page are now found in separate circular containers located at the top of the menu. When you visit a saved page, the star icon will get a rounded square background. Thanks to these changes, important actions stand out more prominently from the growing list of options.

Tab management has undergone a similar transformation. The button to open a new tab has received a rounded square frame with a background matching your device’s color theme, which depends on your home screen wallpaper. The switcher between tabs, incognito mode, and tab groups has gained its own container, with the current section indicated by a rounded square.

Colored Tab Groups and Preserved Size

Tab groups now use color coding based on your chosen color, making them easier to distinguish at a glance. As reported by 9to5Google, developers are also testing Material 3 Expressive elements in the address bar – some users are reportedly seeing a segmented loading indicator with rounded corners when loading pages, but this feature is not yet fully available.

Unlike other Google applications, Chrome has not drastically changed the size of the buttons. All elements remain more compact than in other updated applications, which aligns with Chrome’s conservative approach to design changes.

How to Get the New Look

The Material 3 Expressive redesign is rolling out gradually as a server-side update along with Chrome 141 for Android. If you don’t have it yet, you’ll just need to wait a little longer.
