Google confirms: More Android devices will soon learn to share files via AirDrop

Last November, Google pleasantly surprised when it launched direct file sharing between Android and Apple devices for the Pixel 10 series. Shortly thereafter, hints appeared in test versions of the system that the feature might also arrive on older Pixel 9 models. Now, the company has officially confirmed that it plans much more – Quick Share with AirDrop will expand to Android phones of various brands.

As reported by Android Authority, Eric Kay, Vice President of Android Platform Engineering, commented on the topic during a press conference at Google’s Taipei office. “Last year, we launched AirDrop interoperability. In 2026, we will expand it to many more devices,” Kay stated. He added that Google has invested significant effort into compatibility not only with iPhones but also iPads and MacBooks. “Now that we’ve validated the feature, we’re working with partners to expand it to the rest of the ecosystem. You should hear exciting announcements very soon.”

Nothing and Qualcomm are already working on support

Although Google did not specify particular brands or timelines, some companies have already indicated their intentions. Android Authority reminds that Nothing is the only manufacturer to have publicly confirmed work on integration. Qualcomm, meanwhile, recently hinted that it is preparing support for phones with Snapdragon processors. With the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked, where new Samsung flagships will be introduced, and the MWC trade show, there are two immediate opportunities for the first major announcements.
