Google has expanded the capabilities of the popular Deep Research tool in Gemini by integrating it with the Workspace office suite. The tool, which previously only searched web sources, can now also work with documents from Google Drive, emails from Gmail, and conversations from Google Chat. The Californian software giant states in a blog post that this was one of the most requested features by users.

Combining internal data with web sources

Deep Research can now create comprehensive reports by combining user documents with publicly available information. The tool can analyze Docs, Slides, and Sheets documents or PDF files stored on Google Drive, process relevant email conversations from Gmail, and even include discussions from Google Chat.

Particularly practical feature in a corporate environment

Google also provides specific examples of use. For instance, when creating a market analysis, Deep Research can compare publicly available information about competing products with internal company strategies, comparison tables, and team discussions. The tool thus saves hours of manual work when processing sources of completely different natures.

Available to all Gemini users

The expanded Deep Research feature is available to all Gemini users. On desktop, you can launch it by selecting “Deep Research” from the Tools menu in the text field, where you then select the desired data sources. The new feature is expected to arrive in the mobile application in the coming days, rolling out gradually to individual users.
