Google Gemini is catching up with ChatGPT in user count. A new flagship model will arrive later this year

Google revealed interesting details about its smart assistant at the end of October. The company also stated that the number of queries has tripled compared to the second quarter of this year.

Gemini 3 to be released later this year

Along with the announcement of user numbers, Pichai also confirmed that the Gemini 3 model will be introduced by the end of the year. This model is intended to build on the success of the current Gemini 2.5 Pro model, which the company describes as one of the leaders in its class. The new generation should bring further improvements in context understanding and processing complex tasks.

ChatGPT still leads, but it’s facing challenges

Despite Gemini’s impressive growth, OpenAI’s ChatGPT remains the most used chatbot. According to TechCrunch, CEO Sam Altman stated late last month that ChatGPT is used by 800 million users monthly. The 150 million user difference between the two services shows that OpenAI still maintains the lead it gained thanks to its earlier market entry.
