Google Home app to get a massive update! Gemini is coming, the interface will change, and a subscription will likely arrive Home News Google Home will get a complete redesign with Gemini assistant integration The app will offer an "Ask Home" feature for conversational smart home control The changes are expected to arrive after the official unveiling on October 1, 2025 Sdílejte: Adam Kurfürst Published: 21. 9. 2025 00:30 Advertisement Google is preparing a massive update for the Google Home app, which will put Gemini artificial intelligence at its center. Android Authority has mapped out the individual changes – app version v3.41.50.3 contains code for a completely redesigned user interface and features based on a more advanced AI assistant. Let’s see what awaits us. Gemini will finally replace Google Assistant The main new feature will be “Gemini for Home”, which will completely replace the existing Google Assistant on smart home devices. Users will gain access to Gemini Live, allowing natural conversations with the AI assistant without the need for specific commands. The system will be able to describe what you want to automate, search video and event history in the home, or provide detailed AI event descriptions including daily summaries. Incidentally, the new app version mentions the upcoming and previously leaked Google Home Speaker with 360° sound, which will finally leverage Gemini’s full potential. Google Home Premium subscription is coming Android Authority, among others, managed to find out that some advanced features will require a Google Home Premium subscription, the price of which has not yet been announced. 9to5Google then reports that this service will replace the current Nest Aware and offer features such as video recording upon motion detection, familiar face recognition, or detailed AI event descriptions with daily summaries. Interestingly, Google Home Premium should be part of the Google One subscription – at least in the UK, this benefit has been available for Nest Aware since 2024. Google is also preparing a Premium Advanced variant, which will likely replace Nest Aware Plus with 60-day event history and 10-day continuous recording. Redesigned User Interface The app will undergo a significant visual transformation. The “Oblíbené” (Favorites) tab will be renamed to “Domů” (Home), while the Devices and Settings tabs will disappear entirely. You will access the list of all devices via the grid icon directly on the main screen. The interface will be cleaner and more organized – icons for Settings, Inbox, and Lab (preview features) will move to the account switcher. An interesting new feature is the ability to pin outdoor air quality (AQI) and temperature directly to the home screen. Data will be displayed for the address you have set as home in Google Home. The Activity and Automations tabs will also undergo changes, receiving new icons and a slightly different look. “Ask Home” feature as the central control point A key element of the new interface will be the “Ask Home” search bar located at the top of the app. Through it, users will communicate with Gemini using natural language – simply describe what you want to do, and the AI will take care of the rest. Upon first launch, new terms of use will need to be agreed upon. The conversational screen will offer the option to rate responses with a thumbs up or down to improve results. Users will also be able to regenerate responses using the refresh button or start an entirely new conversation. Changes will also affect adding new devices – QR code scanning will no longer be full-screen, but in a smaller preview for better focus on the scanned area. When can we expect the new features? Google has officially confirmed the announcement of Nest news – specifically new cameras, a doorbell, and the aforementioned speaker – for October 1, 2025. It can therefore be assumed that the gradual rollout of the update for users will begin shortly thereafter. The integration of Gemini into Google Home represents the biggest change in smart home control since the introduction of Google Assistant. Instead of fixed commands, users will be able to communicate with their home naturally, as if speaking to a human servant.
