Google is once again offering a deal for students. This time, it's giving away only AI Plus for free for a year, and providing a significant discount on AI Pro.

The new academic year is approaching, and Google is once again attracting students. This year, it offers them a free annual subscription to the paid Gemini plan, along with a fresh set of study tools. However, compared to last year, there’s one significant catch: only the lower Google AI Plus is now being given away for free, whereas for the better-equipped Google AI Pro in the Czech Republic, you will only receive a significant discount.

The offer targets university students worldwide. In addition to the subscription itself, a study hub, smart study blocks, and the ability to conduct in-depth research directly in Gemini Live’s voice mode are also being added.

Czech Students Will Only Receive Google AI Plus This Time

Where you study is crucial. Students in the United States get a year of Google AI Pro for free (otherwise it costs 549.99 CZK per month). For everyone else, including Czech university students, a year of Google AI Plus awaits – a tier lower plan with access to the Gemini Omni model, double the limits compared to the free version, and 400 GB of storage. It normally costs 149.99 CZK per month. The more expensive AI Pro, by comparison, offers 5 TB of space, quadruple limits, and more advanced features.

And that’s precisely where the new wave of offers disappointed me a bit. The free Google AI Pro, which I activated last autumn, will expire in mid-October – and I simply won’t be able to renew it for free, because for the Czech Republic, only the cheaper Plus is now available in the promotion.

Google AI Pro with a Discount Sounds Like a Great Deal

Those who don’t want to lose the higher plan don’t have to pay full price. Google AI Pro will cost students 139.99 CZK per month with a 74% discount instead of the usual 549.99 CZK, for up to four years. Even more appealing, in my opinion, is the bundle that adds YouTube Premium to Pro: for 249 CZK per month (68% discount, normally 788.99 CZK), you get AI and ad-free video watching, background playback, and offline access.

Once my free Pro expires in October, I’ll most likely switch to this combination with YouTube Premium. I pay for the streaming service membership anyway, and with this, I’ll still be able to enjoy Google Health Premium and higher AI limits with a significant discount. The extra charge also hurts a bit less because YouTube Premium itself is now getting more expensive here.

Google will verify eligibility for the student price through the SheerID service, and you will need a valid payment card for registration. After graduation (or after four years), the subscription will revert to the standard rate. According to Google, you can activate all offers by the end of the year, specifically by December 31, 2026.
